In response to my poll earlier in the week.
Rest doesn't have to be expensive, it doesn't have to be 100s of £££s. Sometimes it's as simple as sitting with yourself and simply being - learning to do it without a practise or facilitator.
Eating mindfully, drinking mindfully, showering mindfully. Being present and not distracting your mind. This is active rest which ebbs into your subconscious to improve your passive rest (sleeping, napping).
Wellness at the moment is selling you many, many things to help you rest when you already have those tools. If you can afford the extra wellness rests then by all means utilise it but I think it's important to be open and transparent that it isn't actually required to help you rest. You have the best tools already - your breath π«, your body, movement, nourishing foods.
Many of you mentioned how you find it difficult to rest - the best thing I did was schedule it and for a time I had to book in wellness practices to do this. Reiki, sound healing, yoga etc. I still utilise these now because I still find it difficult to prioritise myself. We are surrounded by insta-sh*teeee, discussing the requirements for hitting the grind - get up at 5am, burst your baws, stress yourself to be doing what everyone else is doing, do better, be better..... In a world where our bodies are constantly in fight or flight, let's increase the cortisol, the inflammation, the damage to our cells, burn out our adrenals to the point we have no cortisol left to get us up in the morning instead of learning to rest and digest before incorporating other things. π
For the majority of us that isn't sustainable, find things that work for you to prioritise your health and wellness. Explore, be curious and don't settle for how someone else tells you to live your life (including what I've said, if U love the grind you do you!!)ππ€
Also, for those of us who chastise ourselves for resting - just don't, have ya tried not thinking about it. π
I kid of course - next time that little horror in your head says you don't deserve to rest tell yourself I DESERVE TO REST, MY BODY NEEDS REST, MY BRAIN NEEDS REST, I AM WORTH IT, I AM SAFE, I AM LOVED, I AM DESERVING
