🌟 Did you know primary 7 visual screening before high school stopped this year❓
Glasgow was one of the last health boards to still offer this service.
This now means there are no routine vision screening tests for your child after nursery👁️
There are lots of subtle eye problems that could be holding your child back in school which can be picked up by optometrists during an eye examination.
With the school summer holidays coming up this might be the perfect opportunity to bring your child in if they haven’t had their eyes tested in a while🌞
All eye exams are fully funded by the NHS and are more thorough than the visual screening test.
Neil and Johnathan are happy to see children of any age, even a few months old if you ever have any concerns about their eyes or vision 👶🏼✨

At Kirk Road Eye Care we know how debilitating ocular allergy can be especially during hayfever season 🌼

If your antihistamine tablets aren’t enough to keep your symptoms at bay you might like to try cold eye packs or unmedicated allergy drops to soothe and reduce irritation. These are both available at the practice.

If things get really bad Neil & Johnathan can both prescribe stronger treatments if needed 👁️

👁️ Everything You Need To Know About Conjunctivitis 👁️

Conjunctivitis is an eye infection that can affect people of all ages, it usually gets better within a couple of weeks without treatment. However some people may require treatment.

🤷🏼‍♀️ How do you know if you have conjunctivitis?
It usually affects both eyes and makes them:
* red
* burn or feel gritty
* produce pus that sticks to lashes
* itchy
* watery

🔍 Types of Conjunctivitis
* Viral Conjunctivitis- often caused by a cold or respiratory infection. Highly contagious and usually resolves on its own.
* Bacterial Conjunctivitis- Caused by bacteria and often treated with antibiotics
* Allergic Conjunctivitis- Triggered by allergies like pollen/pets etc.

🦠 Stop infectious conjunctivitis from spreading
There are things you can do to stop conjunctivitis spreading to other people.

* wash your hands regularly with warm soapy water
* wash your pillow cases and face cloths in hot water and detergent
* cover your mouth and nose when sneezing and put used tissues in the bin

💊How to treat conjunctivitis yourself
There are things you can do to help ease the symptoms of conjunctivitis.
* Wash your eyelids with clean water. Boil the water and let it cool down, then gently wipe your eyelashes with a clean cotton wool pad to clean off crusts (1 piece for each eye).
* Hold a cold flannel on your eyes for a few minutes to cool them down.
Do not wear contact lenses until your eyes are better.
* Contact your optometrist; you can contact us on 0150 341 259 and we can assess your symptoms and advise accordingly.Should you need to see the optometrist we can arrange an appointment for you 🤓
