What a week it’s been at Steeton Court! ✨

From getting our hands messy with a sensory tray to testing our minds with quizzes and memory games, our week started off with lots of fun!

On Wednesday, residents got creative with a special willow pattern art session, followed by an afternoon of pampering and lots of laughter as we tried to deflate the paddling pool from our summer fete!

The highlight was definitely yesterday's magical intergenerational morning with Oona and some wonderful local children. The residents absolutely lit up! Later, our gentlemen enjoyed a well-deserved trip for beers and cake at Addingham Hamiltons.

We're so excited to announce that our heartwarming "Adopt a Grand-Friend" scheme is expanding to all of our care homes! 🥳

This initiative creates special intergenerational friendships between young people and our wonderful residents, and we're inviting our local community to get involved. We believe these connections are a powerful way to bridge generations and spread joy. 🤝

The scheme offers amazing benefits for everyone involved:

👶For young people: It helps develop communication skills, boosts confidence, and teaches empathy. 💖

👵For residents: It provides mental stimulation, reduces loneliness, and fosters a sense of purpose. 😊

What a fantastic and busy week we've had at Steeton Court! 🎉

The week started on a sweet note with our goodie trolley making the rounds, followed by our residents showing off their competitive side in some very lively quizzes! We had so much fun with a 'freestyle' quiz, especially when one resident decided to test us in German!

Our residents also tapped into their creative side this week with some beautiful scraper art, where each piece perfectly captured the creator's personality. We also had a wonderful time with powder painting, creating ocean animals. And to wrap up the week, our residents enjoyed some relaxing pottery painting and a friendly game of bingo!

It was also a week of treats and kindness. We held a Wellbeing Wednesday where staff were given early finishes and lie-ins—a hugely popular idea! We were also so grateful to welcome Christine, a former nurse, for a pamper session, where she gave residents and staff wonderful hand massages. A huge thank you to her for her kindness and generosity!

So many smiles, so much creativity, and a whole lot of fun. We're already looking forward to next week!

Thank You Social Media! The Story of Our Newest Grandfriend... 🫂

It's been an emotional and incredibly memorable few weeks here at Steeton Court, especially thanks to our Adopt a Grandfriend program. We recently had a very special visitor—a little girl who saw our social media post about the program and wanted to take part herself. This amazing little girl brought flowers for her chosen grandparent, and then generously gave some to another resident as well. This small act of kindness had a huge impact; one resident, who’s had a tough time lately, was so touched that she was moved to tears. The little girl melted everyone's hearts and brought so much joy to the whole home, reminding us all of the beauty that comes from connecting generations. This was a truly emotional moment for all of us. One resident who struggles with communication was even able to say a full sentence of thanks.

During her visit, our new "grandfriend" also sat with the residents and helped them create artwork inspired by the artist Frida Kahlo. The residents loved learning about Frida’s tropical floral headbands and designing their own pieces with the little girl's help. It was a wonderful way to bring people together through creativity.

Beyond these heartwarming visits, we also had a brilliant time joining our friends at Craven Nursing Home for their Farmers Market-themed fete. It was a wonderful day of catching up and sharing stories, with a fantastic atmosphere that gave us some great ideas. We were inspired by the variety of stalls, delicious food, and lively entertainment. It was also brilliant to visit the Veterans Cafe that was included in the fete. This is a monthly event that goes around all four Spellman Care homes and is always a special occasion.

🌞 What an amazing day at our "Beside the Seaside" Summer Fete! 🌞

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such a special event. We kicked things off with an incredible performance from Sheldon's School of Dance, and from there, the fun didn't stop. Our lounges were buzzing with residents, families, and visitors enjoying freshly cooked fish and chips, followed by ice creams and lively conversation.

The glorious weather allowed for plenty of fun and games outside, from our vintage tin can alley to panning for gold nuggets. The highlight of the afternoon was undoubtedly the amazing Craig Carlisle, who had everyone up and dancing with his fantastic performance. He even did a special show just for our Harewood Unit residents and visitors! 🎶

A special thank you to all the staff and management who worked so hard to make the fair a huge success. We also want to give a massive shout-out to the many local businesses who donated so generously to our raffle. Your kindness and community spirit truly blew us away.

We're delighted to announce that once counted, the proceeds from our raffle will be combined with the funds raised at Springbank Care Home's summer fete last month before being donated to Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, a charity chosen by our wonderful staff. ✨
