A Wonderful Few Days at Steeton Court! 🌟

We have had a truly heart-warming time lately, starting on Friday with a beautiful birthday celebration filled with vibrant roses and a visit from the lovely Martha the Cavapoo. 🌹 Martha brought so many smiles to the home, showing off her clever tricks and greeting everyone she met! 🐾 Our afternoon was just as lively with "laugh-out-loud" quizzes and bingo, where we discovered some very silly facts about the animal kingdom. 🦩 We also shared a special moment with one of our history-loving gentlemen, who is now happily back to his war books thanks to a wonderful new light-up magnifying glass. 📖✨

Moving into the weekend, we enjoyed a peaceful morning of newspapers and warm welcomes for our newest residents. 🗞️ We’ve been busy launching our 1:1 Wish List project, hearing moving stories like one lady’s dream to see the spring blooms at Harlow Carr. 🌷 Our "Armchair Travels" took us to Belgium this week, where Chef Kirby’s delicious waffles were a huge hit, though the Belgian beer was a bit too strong for some who preferred a classic John Smith’s! 🧇🍺

Yesterday at home was filled with so much joy and laughter! We kicked off a lovely morning moving with Oona, the children, and our residents, with energy bursting from the conservatory as everyone got stuck into dancing and exercising. It was particularly special to hear the children sing a chorus of 'Happy Birthday' to one of our ladies who celebrates her big day tomorrow! 🎂🤩

The fun continued into the afternoon with our weekly quiz. Our residents are becoming such experts that we had to increase the difficulty, but they still managed to outshine us across science and literature trivia. We had some very surprised faces during our “Guess the Price” challenge comparing 1955 to 2025, before finishing with a brilliant sing-along to classic TV theme tunes. From Sooty and Z Cars to Dad’s Army, the music really did chase away the January blues! 🎵 control

🌟 Making Promises & Making Memories at Steeton Court 🌟

Yesterday was a truly special day across the home, filled with personal touches and plenty of smiles!

🎬 A Movie Morning Success

We had a wonderful movie morning to start the day. After a recent chat about history, one of our gentlemen, Mr G, was thrilled to find we’d remembered his request. He spent the morning in his element watching Dunkirk on the big screen. As Mr G put it: "A war film on the big screen & breakfast brought by a smiley face." Don’t worry Mr G, we never forget to follow through with a promise! 😇

🗞️ Morning Reflections

We were joined by another resident shortly after breakfast for a quiet moment with the morning papers. It was a lovely opportunity to catch up on current affairs and share some interesting discussions about what is going on in the world currently. 🌎

🎲 Skill & Strategy on Cavendish

Later on, we headed over to Cavendish for a morning of 1-1 activities where the competitive spirit was definitely in the air. We passed the time with some fun games ranging from cards and dominoes to classic board games. One of our gents turned teacher for the day by showing us how to play poker, while one lady showed off the steadiest hand for a very skilful round of Jenga. Well done to everyone who joined in and gave the games a go! 👏

💅 Pamper Time in the Salon

It was a busy afternoon in the salon with the lovely Sharon, who spent the time creating and styling everyone’s hair. One of our gents was also treated to a relaxing manicure, jokingly letting us know that he was quite alright for nail polish this time! 😆

✨ A Very Special Milestone at Steeton Court ✨

Today was a day we won’t soon forget, filled with the kind of moments that remind us why we love what we do.

The highlight of our afternoon was a trip over to Steeton Hall to celebrate one of our newest residents. We are so touched to share that she has officially decided to make Steeton Court her permanent home! There were tears of joy as she told us how much she loves it here; it truly means the world to us to know she feels so happy and settled. 🥰

Back at the home, our Harewood community spent a lovely morning connecting through music and puzzles. We’ve been busy with our Playlist for Life questionnaires, which sparked some incredible memories. One gentleman shared wonderful stories of his younger years on stage, speaking about his love for musicals as if it were only yesterday.

From meaningful songs to the joy of a new permanent resident, today was all about the feeling of family. 🏡❤️

🎶 Musical Memories at Steeton Court! 🎶

Following on from our new music initiative, we enjoyed a truly fantastic afternoon here at Steeton Court!

We kicked things off with a lively music quiz that put everyone’s knowledge to the test, followed by plenty of laughs and singing during a few rounds of musical bingo. 🎤✨

The room was absolutely bursting with energy and some great friendly competition. It was wonderful to see everyone getting involved and having such a brilliant time together!

✨ Energy, Smiles, and Special News at Steeton Court! ✨

We have had a brilliant, high-energy morning over on Harewood! Our balloon tennis session really got everyone moving and laughing, with fantastic enthusiasm from all our residents. It was wonderful to see everyone so fully involved and enjoying such a lively and fun-filled activity.

The excitement continued as we shared some very special news. We were delighted to congratulate one of our wonderful nurses on her recent engagement! We spent a lovely time looking through her beautiful engagement photos and admiring her stunning ring together.

We also made sure to say hello to Rosie, who has been keeping our residents very busy and working hard during their physio sessions. It has been a thoroughly enjoyable morning full of movement, hard work, and heartfelt celebrations! 💍✨🎈

🎶 The Power of Music at Steeton Court 🎶

This Saturday was a truly special one as we spent our morning building our "Playlist for Life" during one-to-one sessions with our residents. We are so excited to be part of this wonderful new scheme!

Music has a powerful way of unlocking happy memories, and each playlist is being carefully tailored to reflect the incredible lives our residents have lived. Our conversations while filling out the questionnaires were a joy—ranging from sun-drenched holiday memories and special life milestones right back to favourite childhood nursery rhymes.

❤️ One particularly emotional moment involved one of our gentlemen while listening to Frank Sinatra’s “My Way”. As he sang along to the lyrics "I’ve lived a life that’s full," he turned to us with a smile and said Sinatra must have written the song just for him, as it couldn’t have suited his life any better. 🥰

We still have many more questionnaires to complete before our playlists are finalised. This is a lovely person-centred activity for residents and relatives to do together, and some have already taken theirs away to fill out in their own time.

The fun didn’t stop there! In the afternoon, we kept the brain cells buzzing with a variety of quizzes—from trivia and riddles to "guess the flag." There really was something for everyone!

We’re already receiving more questionnaires back and can't wait to hear the songs that make our residents' hearts sing. Watch this space! 🎵✨

It has been a wonderful couple of days of creativity and companionship here at Steeton Court! 🌸

Yesterday afternoon, we held our Spring Wreath Watercolour Class. It was a joy to see how invested our residents are in their artwork; many have been practising hard between sessions! We built on previous techniques to create some truly beautiful blue wreaths. Every resident was a superstar, and we were even joined by some inspired visitors who have decided to pick up their brushes again! 🎨

We also extended a very warm welcome to a lovely new resident who is a keen knitter—we can’t wait to see what she can teach us! 🧶

The excitement continued this morning with a visit from the gorgeous Martha the Cavapoo. Our residents (and staff!) couldn't get enough of her loveable looks and sweet nature. There is nothing quite like some pet therapy to brighten the day! 🐶🥰
