Having now done the recce for this walk, it is important to emphasise the need for stout, grippy footwear. Although not too muddy, the pine needles, cones, twigs and roots along the walk can be very slippy. I slipped and stumbled a few times, but mainly because I wasn’t being careful enough.
Also: the path is quite overgrown in a few brief stretches. Here there are thistles, brambles, nettles and hogweed. We recommend full-length trousers and tops to avoid scratches, scrapes and possibly ticks.
On the upside, the flora and fauna are amazing. Butterflies, damsel flies, moths, thistles, foxglove and marsh orchids aplenty. Lets hope for good weather so our cameras don’t get soaked!
This Saturday - 5th July - our longer health walk leaves from Loch Park at 10am.
This will be approximately 2 hours and it is important that walkers prepare well for the walk.
Footwear - please wear robust, stiff-soled walking boots or shoes as some of the path can be stoney and uneven. Trainers, fashion shoes/boots, plimmies, sandals and baffies are definitely not recommended!
Clothing - the weather has become changeable, to say the least. Although the forecast is fair for Saturday, be sure to bring a layer or two to fend off the rain and cold, should they come.
Water and food - please take enough water with you, and a snack to eat en route. We will make occasional stops so walkers can take a drink and have some food. There may be a supply of Irn Bru pastels and some chocolate!
Travel - there is very limited parking at Loch Park and we should try to fill as few cars as possible. Just add a comment to seek a lift and I'm sure we can fill all vehicles. I have at least two spaces left in my car at time of posting.
Fees - there are none.
Booking - not required.
All done. See you Saturday morning.
