Double the Dan's, double the fun 🎉

Say hello to our brand‑new Over 50s Fit for Futures Tuesday Group – led by not one, but two fantastic instructors who share the same name! Yes… you read that right.

Danii & Danny are ready to guide you through your Tuesday with energy, enthusiasm and a whole lot of laughs. 😄

💧 Danii’s Session (Team AquaDan!)
• Aquatics for Health, 10am – 10:45am
• Followed by a refreshing Health Walk to Kendal Castle, 11 - 12pm

💪 Danny’s Session (Team LandDan!)
• Exercise Class, 10am – 10:45am
• Followed by Boccia, Kurling or Table Tennis, 11 - 12pm
• And optional Supervised Gym, 12 - 1pm

Choose your Dan… or try both over the weeks! 😉 This is a drop in 3-hour session, so pick as many or few activities as you like.

Looking to boost your health, stay active, and enjoy good company? Fit for Futures is launching – and you’re invited!

Starting Tuesday 10th February at Kendal Leisure Centre

Join Danny and Danii for a fun, energising morning of movement designed especially for over 50s. With a relaxed drop‑in format, you can take part in as much or as little as you like – whatever suits you!

What’s On?
10am – 10:45am - Exercise Class or Aquatics for Health
11am – 12pm - Health Walk or Boccia, Curling & Table Tennis
12pm – 1pm - Supervised Gym Session

✅ Suitable for all abilities
✅ Great for improving strength, mobility, and confidence
✅ A brilliant way to meet new people and stay socially connected

Struggling to stay motivated this winter? You’re not alone. ❄️

Short days, cold weather, dark nights and busy schedules can make it harder to keep moving and look after ourselves – but small changes can make a big difference.

✅ Set realistic goals
✅ Focus on what you can do, not what you can’t
✅ Try something new to keep things interesting
✅ Keep active in ways that feel good – indoors or outdoors
✅ Lean on friends, family or a routine for support

Winter is a great time to be kind to yourself, build healthy habits gently and remember that every little bit counts. Moving more, staying connected and keeping a positive mindset can really boost both physical and mental wellbeing.

Lesley’s Escape Pain story

Lesley joined our very first 6‑week Escape Pain programme for hip and knee pain while dealing with ongoing hip pain and sciatica. At the start, even walking one full circuit of her village felt like a real challenge - but Lesley showed incredible determination and kept going.

During one of our group discussions about pain management and medication, Lesley realised that her current medication might not be the best fit for her. After speaking with her GP and having her prescription adjusted, everything changed - and she hasn’t looked back since.

Week by week, Lesley’s confidence and ability grew. She progressed so well that she was jogging during the shuttle walk, feeling largely pain‑free, and able to complete more than one full village circuit at a time - something she couldn’t imagine doing when she started.

More recently, Lesley underwent a hip operation. Just three weeks later, she’s back home exercising again - starting with chair‑based arm exercises and now progressing to physio‑approved leg exercises. She’s currently walking with just one crutch and is already practising walking without any support at all.

This is what Escape Pain is all about: education, confidence, movement, and empowering people to take control of their pain and their lives.👋

Due to demand across our services, we’re looking for a passionate Multi-Skilled Recreation Assistant to join the Better Health Westmorland & Furness team at Penrith Leisure Centre! 🙌

If you thrive in a busy, community-focused environment, enjoy supporting great activities like Bowls, Boccia and Pickleball, and love delivering excellent customer service, we want to hear from you!

This varied role gives you the chance to be hands-on with customers, plan and deliver sessions, and support local clubs and partners.
