Always good to look at new ideas for water safety and rescue. Out with Cumbria Fire and Rescue today playing with remotely operated rescue tools. Our general conclusions were that these could be brilliant for high footfall areas next to the water enabling a trained operator to help someone in moments. Never a replacement for personal water rescue training but an exciting development in the field of water safety.

Learning Zone
Brilliant to work with Cumbria Fire and Rescue last week on their Rescue 3 SRT Instructor training programme.
Lots of conversation about hitting the learning zone; the sweet spot between challenge and support where real learning occurs. Noticeably this was often created by playful experimentation in a safe environment - you know when you hit that spot was level of engagement goes through the roof.
Here we are using reach poles for entrapments in energised water and learning rescue techniques for weir rescue. We all know weirs can be lethal - but with the right safety framework we can train hard to ensure we are a good as we can be for real emergencies.

Busy week here with a trip to London to share best practice around the water with Clancy construction then working with JBA on a Rescue 3 Safe Working in Water programme. Pace hotter than the weather next week with programmes for Eden Rivers Trust, DSD construction and Loughborough University.
Am I the only one wishing for rain to bring the rivers up?

Great to work with Event Medical Team Limited on their Rescue 3 SRT programme last week. challenging conditions with snow and ice on the ground all week but great fun, off to Scotland on Monday for a programme with SEPA then back to Lakes for BAE Systems and Kendal Mountain Rescue night training, busy busy!

Great conditions for our last programme of the year, Rescue 3 Advanced SRT with members of Cumbria Fire and the Welsh Ambulance service.
Many thanks to everyone who has supported out work this year and our many participants. Busiest year to date for Water Rescue, many weeks had us delivering back to back programmes. Looking forward to a break and then back in the water in January - still loving it!

Great few days with Colin Hill, Graeme lawton, Mariusz Kozlowski, Charlie Erasmus, and Jonathan Hughes on our Rescue 3 SRT programme. Good water levels and a great team. Back in the water today to work with BAE Fire on their Rescue 3 SRT recert programme.

Rescue 3's ice rescue course is one of my favourite courses of all time! SimonHansen from R3 Norge is putting on a couple of exceptional value programmes next year, could be combined with a bit of ski touring or winter climbing? Cheap flights to Oslo and good exchange rate make it very tempting. Wish I could go but already booked up with SRT programmes!

Our 5 box of equipment has arrived in Pakistan for Usheri water Rescue Team. Thank you so much for your donations. Another pallet of equipment sent to Kerala where recent flooding and landslides took over 200 people. Water rescue are helping to set up a training centre there to train and equipment locals to deal with future floods
