For all those who found January a struggle or felt like hibernating - February has arrived! And with it, the snowdrops have begun to raise their petals, nights are slowly getting lighter and a new month offers new beginnings.

For anyone who had new years resolutions for a healthier lifestyle in 2026 that hasn't quite gone to plan so far - you can use a new month to reset with intention.

🌱 To brighten the end of January, our plant of the month is Calendula officinalis or Pot Marigold. 🌼

Calendula is popular in creams and salves for its soothing and skin-calming properties and you're likely to find it in nappy creams and burn creams. It features in more than half of the Neal's Yard Remedies collection. But had you made the connection that it was from one of our popular garden plants?

Traditionally, herbalists have turned to it as an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory and for promoting new skin growth. Calendula has been used as a natural medicine to treat dry skin, eczema, insect bites and digestive issues including stomach ulcers.

In mythology and folklore, the flower is associated with the sun and when hung over doors was believed to keep evil away. If you place the petals beneath your bed it supposedly encourages prophetic dreams.

Part of the daisy family, the petals are also edible - and can be tossed in salads to bring some extra colour or are also used in herbal teas (but don't confuse them with the Tagetes species of Marigold). The strong golden colour is also used as a food dye, in makeup and for dyeing fabric.

Perhaps our favourite story of the Calendula plant is in Greek mythology where a young woman fell in love with Apollo, the sun god. Her love was so strong she is said to have faded away whilst she waited for him, becoming a Calendula flower that continued to turn towards the sun.

✨️'Twixtmas' - the period between Christmas Day and New Year - can be a time for resting, resetting and reflection. Whether you're back at work, visiting friends and family or quietly alone - however you spend yours, we hope you are able to enjoy this festive lull.

Thank you to all our clients this year and we wish you a warm and merry festive break. We love supporting you on your individual health journeys and helping you to meet your relaxation goals. We are open during 'Twixtmas' (booked appointments only), but will see most of you again in the New Year.

✨️Now is a great time to ponder on what the New Year could look like for you, to manifest what it could bring and consider actions you can take to make 2026 your year. Place those important fun dates, visits and goals on the calendar now so they definitely happen and you don't find the year running away with you with all work and no play! And if you're reflecting on 2025 and have the time, we'd love you to leave us a review on our Facebook or Google pages. ✨️
