💚 Dementia Awareness Week | 18th–24th May 💚

This week at Home Instead South Lakes, we’ll be sharing a series of informative videos from our Dementia Champion, Shaun, offering insight, advice, and support around dementia awareness and understanding.

We’re also looking forward to our Dementia Event on the 23rd - Stronger Together for Dementia Support, in partnership with Lions Club International.

📍 Parish Hall, Kendal
⏰ 10:00am – 3:30pm

Across Cumbria, many families are affected by dementia. This special event brings together local organisations, health services, and community groups to offer information, advice, and practical support - all in one place.

These activities are all leading up to our larger Dementia Awareness Event on 16th September at Beetham Nurseries, in partnership with Heron Hill Care Home, with even more opportunities to learn, connect, and support our local community.

Together, we can help raise awareness, reduce stigma, and ensure no one faces dementia alone 💚

Our second Mental Health Week walk saw Manon and Martyna(and of course Billie and Scout take on and bravely embrace Arnside 🌧️

The weather wasn’t always on their side, but they still made the most of the sunshine when it appeared - getting outside, moving, and taking in the fresh air along Arnside front.

Even just a short stroll by the sea can make a real difference to how we feel, and remind us of the importance of stepping away from the day-to-day and giving ourselves a moment to reset 💚

Even though Mental Health Week is drawing to a close, it is still so important to get out in the fresh air and take care of your body. Our Care Professionals are so important to us - without them we wouldn’t be able to support our wonderful clients. We will always try and help out where we can.

We Grow Together 🌱💚

At Home Instead, we grow together - in care, in companionship, and in the little everyday moments that make life meaningful.

One of our clients and her amazing Care Professional have been growing tomatoes from seed on a kitchen windowsill, and look how far they’ve come! From tiny seeds to thriving plants, it’s been a wonderful shared project filled with patience, encouragement, and plenty of smiles along the way. 🍅

We love that our visits are about so much more than support — they’re about sharing experiences, getting stuck into hobbies, and enjoying life together. Whether it’s gardening on the windowsill, baking, chatting over a cuppa, or trying something new, these moments bring real joy and connection to everyday life.

It’s these simple, shared activities that often mean the most - and we’re proud that our Care Professionals and clients can enjoy them side by side. 💚

If you or a loved one would like support to continue enjoying the hobbies and moments that matter most, get in touch with your local Home Instead team today. 01539 267220

Keeping clients connected to the community is a privilege that many of our Care Professionals have.

Thanks to Lisa, a star in our latest sponsorship films for Love Your Weekend, her client Joan can still get out and about and doing the things she loves best.

In support of Mental Health Week, we created two opportunities for our Care Professionals to take part in a mental health walk and enjoy some time in the fresh air.

Our Care Professionals’ mental health is extremely important to us, and we are committed to supporting their wellbeing in every way we can.

Our first walk took us around beautiful Kendal, giving us a chance to step away from the busy working day, connect with each other, and take in our surroundings.

It’s so important to make time to get outside, breathe deeply, and reset - especially in roles where we care so much for others. Fresh air, movement, and conversation can make a real difference to wellbeing 💚

And we think it’s safe to say Scout and Billie (our dogs) enjoyed it the most! 🐾

Good Food & Mealtimes

Good food plays an important role in both physical health and mental wellbeing. Sharing a meal, enjoying a warm drink, or cooking something comforting can bring routine, comfort, and enjoyment to the day. 🍲💚

At Home Instead, we know mealtimes are often about more than nutrition - they’re moments for connection and reassurance too. Our Care Professionals can support with meal preparation, shopping, and encouragement around healthy eating, as well as sitting down together to make mealtimes more sociable and enjoyable.

We can also help clients continue enjoying the foods they love, whether that’s cooking favourite recipes or simply sharing a cup of tea and a chat. Care is about making everyday moments feel easier, warmer, and more meaningful.

This Mental Health Week, take time to enjoy good food and good company.

Music & Sporting Events

There’s something special about enjoying music, live events, or sport with others. Whether it’s listening to favourite songs, attending a local event, or cheering on a favourite team, shared experiences can boost mood, encourage social connection, and help reduce feelings of loneliness. 🎶⚽💚

At Home Instead, we believe care is about supporting people to continue enjoying the things they love. Our Care Professionals can accompany clients to community events, local groups, concerts, or sporting activities, helping them stay connected, active, and engaged with their community.

This Mental Health Week, take time to enjoy the moments that bring happiness and connection.

👏💚 Candy has been hard at work training our newest Care Professionals!

Our latest Day in the Life saw five new Care Professionals complete their basic training, covering everything from medication and basic life support to moving and handling.

These training days are always informative, supportive, and good fun too 😊 They give our new Care Professionals the chance to ask questions, talk through any worries, and build confidence before starting their first visits.

They also get time with our Care Coordinators to learn more about the clients they’ll be supporting, helping them feel prepared, confident, and ready to make a difference from day one 💚

This training also included hoisting a real person - our social media and video guru Martyna… who willingly volunteered to assist, as Gerry was apparently having a bad day 😂

Welcome to the team everyone!

Time with Our Pets & Four-Legged Friends

Our pets have a wonderful way of brightening even the toughest days. A walk with the dog, a cuddle with the cat, or simply spending time with animals can help reduce stress, ease loneliness, and bring comfort and joy. 🐾💚

At Home Instead, we understand just how important pets can be to our wellbeing and daily routines. That’s why, as part of our care visits, our Care Professionals can also help with looking after beloved pets - whether that’s feeding them, refreshing water bowls, helping with walks, or simply making sure both clients and their furry companions are happy and cared for.

Care is about supporting the whole person, including the things that bring them comfort, companionship, and happiness every day.

This Mental Health Week, take a moment to appreciate the calming companionship of our four-legged friends.
