Piet Mondrian
Following up from the painting groups' sessions this week, we looked at the life and work of this trailblazer of modern abstract art.
Mondrian's uncompromising breakdowns of form towards the end of his career were appreciated but not loved by our group, we much preferred the more organic earlier work. We talked about abstraction and spent some time making basic shapes from more complex images as doodles.
We worked in sketchbooks and small sheets of cartridge paper in a variety of mediums. The activity was fun, where everyone worked in styles reflecting different stages of Mondrian's creative development.
Next week, we're exploring the work of one of my favourite artists, Hundertwasser.
