Stuttering Hypnotherapy
Stuttering is a communication disorder in which the flow of speech is broken by repetitions (li-li-like this), prolongations (lllllike this), or abnormal stoppages (no sound) of sounds and syllables. There may also be unusual facial and body movements associated with the effort to speak. Stuttering is also referred to as stammering. Interestingly, sufferers may not stutter or stammer at all when they cannot hear their own voice. There are a number of factors that have been cited to contribute to the development of stuttering, although positively identifying any particular cause does not necessarily mean an easy solution:
Genetics – approximately 60% of those who stutter have a family member who does also. Childhood development – children with other speech and language problems or developmental delays are more likely to stutter. Neurophysiology – recent neurological research has shown that people who stutter process speech and language slightly differently than those who do not stutter. Family dynamics – high expectations and fast-paced lifestyles may contribute to stuttering. Environmental social factors – growing up with stressed and angry parents – parents shouting at their children. Stuttering may occur when a combination of factors come together and may have different causes in different people. It is probable that what causes stuttering differs from what makes it continue or get worse. Is stuttering caused by emotional or psychological problems? Children and adults who stutter are no more likely to have psychological or emotional problems than children and adults who do not. However, it is interesting that when a client suffering from a stutter or stammer first experiences Hypnosis, very often the stutter or stammer recedes due to the deep level of relaxation that Hypnosis offers. Often a stutterer has placed themselves under so much “internal pressure” that the problem could almost be described as “Anticipatory Anxiety”, a process we examine and discuss at length . Stutters or stammers are also often the result of Social Anxiety and almost certainly exacerbated by a sense of being judged or feeling “on the spot”. Adults who stammer
Stammering can be a deeply frustrating and isolating condition. Stammering is found in all parts of the world and affects the rich, the poor, the highly intelligent and those who have learning difficulties. There are many famous people who stammered, for example King George VI (the Queen's father), Marilyn Monroe, Bruce Willis and Gareth Gates. Stammering occurs in 1% of adults. Most stammering begins in early childhood and children who have been stammering for more than 3 years are more likely to continue to stammer throughout their lives. Other people, even close relatives, may think that your stammer is solely related to your speech, or they may not know that you stammer because you hide it so well. Regardless of what others think, you will know that the answer to the question 'What is stammering?' is that it is a speech problem, but also a problem of the negative feelings and thoughts associated with the act of speaking. Although there is no guaranteed ‘cure’ for stammering by the time you reach teenage years, there is so much that can be done to improve the situation. The first step is to realise that developing a positive approach will start to make other things happen. Unfortunately, there is no evidence of a universal cure for stammering - in other words, there is no approach that works like a magic pill for everyone. This situation is perhaps not so surprising when it is considered that there is still no complete answer to the question, 'What causes stammering?' Most experts agree that it is due to a combination of factors - physiological, neurological, psychological and environmental - but the precise ways that these factors operate together is not known, and clearly the combination will be different from one individual to another. What is clear, then, is that stammering is a complex condition with many characteristics affecting each individual in a unique way. Whilst two people who stammer may sound similar to an outsider, the factors that trigger stammering, and reactions to stammering (both physical and emotional) can be very different. These aspects are highly personal and make it important to consider individual needs in any course of therapy. Tremors
Tremors are movement disorders, characterised by changes in muscle movement . There are many different types tremors, and what initially causes them. I will help you understand the part that hypnosis plays in controlling your issue. Hypnotherapy may be an effective treatment option for patients seeking relief from their parkinsonian symptoms or essential tremor issues . Emotional energy can often be stored in the smooth muscle around organs and joints and we can work to release these restrictions . Previous studies have found hypnosis to be effective at treating symptoms of PD such as pain, depression, anxiety, and sleep disturbance, and autonomic dysfunction

Client referral posted today ,
" Great, and effective hypnotherapist. Stuarts techniques really work and will change you're life for the better.
Hi my name is Neil. I came across Stuart Downing when I found myself seeking out hypnotherapy to treat problems I was having with my sleep due to living next door to previous neighbours who were very noisy and whom had kept me awake. Thankfully, after a couple of months, the neighbours had moved on, but unfortunately as a result, I developed an anxiety about getting to sleep, which in turn lead to me developing an insomnia which was caused by the anxiety. I had also developed Misophonia as a result, and had become hypersensitive to certain noises, such as any bangs or thuds. Even though the neighbours had left, my anxiety still persisted, which only caused me even more anxiety as I couldnt understand why I just couldnt relax as I knew the neighbours were no longer there. It got too the point where the anxiety around my sleep was so bad, that it really started to have a profound effect on my life. I felt I couldnt enjoy life anymore, I just wasnt happy. I had felt like I had lost the ability to relax, as a result it really started to effect my relationships with my family as I just wasnt me anymore, so to speak. Thats when I knew I had to do something as I felt it was destroying my life. I researched hypnotherapy. I was curious as to how it worked, and researched whether or not it would be beneficial for the issues that I was going through. I sought out a few hypnotherapists, thats when I came across Stuart Downing. I did my research on him, and discovered that he could treat issues around sleep/anxiety. I read his reviews, which were all positive. I booked a consultation with Stuart, who was very friendly and reassuring and explained how hypnotherapy worked and the methods he was going to deploy in helping to heal me. In the consultation, Stuart told me that I would only require three to four sessions at the most, which I was surprised about to be honest, as I felt so afflicted by my issues. What can I say? Well, after just one session, I already noticed a vast improvement in my sleep quality. I was sleeping longer and deeper, and waking up totally refreshed. Over the last few weeks of the sessions , my sleep and anxiety has just got better and better. I feel much less anxious, and lot more relaxed, like a weight has been lifted. I am so glad that I decided to invest in the sessions with Stuart, and would recommend it to anyone who is considering hypnotherapy. Stuart helped me learn that a lot of fear is irrational and totally unnessacary, and that I can rationalise with myself that I do not need to feel that fear. I have also learnt extremely effective relaxation techniques, which have really helped me. I f I ever experience any difficulties in the future, I will be sure to utilise these techniques. So, if you have any issue that is effecting you to the point where it is having a profound effect on you're life, then I would highly recommend that you book yourself a consultation with Stuart Downing, it can and will change you're life!

PTSD, Trauma, Phobias & High Anxiety Conditions
When a person encounters an event or situation which they perceive to be dangerous or threatening, their brain instantly focuses on the source of the threat and their body goes into survival mode, often known as the Fight or Flight Response. The additional physical and emotional energy created is used up as the situation passes and their body returns to normal once again. The person’s brain then processes what has happened by separating their emotional response from their physical experience and storing these in different areas of the brain, enabling them to make rational sense of the event. However, sometimes this separation process does not occur and when this happens, it can lead to phobia or trauma.

During a traumatic event, a person’s emotional response may be so extreme that the entire memory of the event becomes locked in the emotional centres of the brain, ready to re-activate whenever they encounter a similar situation which resembles the original event. Instead of being processed by the Hippocampus (the area of the brain which gives an event context) and then being transferred to the Neocortex (the area of the brain where memories are stored), the event remains trapped in the Amygdala; the part of the brain responsible for the fight or flight response. Although the original event may have happened some time ago, it feels as though it is happening very much in the present and this is often true for people who may be experiencing phobias. fears and PTSD.
The Rewind Technique
Based on a Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) technique from the 1970s called Visual-Kinaesthetic (VK) Dissociation or the Fast Phobia Cure, the Rewind Technique is a non-intrusive, safe and effective therapy designed to help people who are experiencing phobias, trauma or PTSD. The name comes from the way in which the person is asked to use their imagination to ‘rewind’ the memory of the traumatic events. Rewind Therapy works by allowing the person to reprocess the traumatic memory so that the emotional information is disconnected from the actual event, therefore enabling the person’s brain to re-code the information and release the anxiety. The memory is moved from the Amygdala to the Neocortex, allowing the memory to be transformed from traumatic, to ordinary and non-threatening.

Benefits of Rewind Therapy
One of the real benefits of Rewind Therapy is that a person does not need to reveal every detail of the traumatic event(s) in order for the therapist to work with them. This means that they do not have to re-experience the events that have caused the phobia or traumatic symptoms. In therapy we use the Rewind Technique in combination with hypnosis, as this allows a person to enter a deeply relaxed trance state where they can calmly reprocess memories and experiences.
