From February The Mummy Hub will be running a pessary fitting clinic to support women with pelvic organ prolapse.
There are multiple different types of prolapse, commonly experienced following childbirth or during the perimenopause and menopause
⭐️Bladder Prolapse or Cystocele: when the bladder begins to protrude into the va**na
⭐️Womb Prolapse or Uterine prolapse: when the uterus descends down into the va**na
⭐️Bowel Prolapse or Rectocele: when the re**um protrudes into the va**na Prolapse symptoms can include:
✅A sensation of heaviness or dragging in the va**na
✅Feeling or seeing a bulge inside the va**na
✅Bladder and bowel dysfunction, including incontinence.
✅Difficulty fully emptying the bladder or bowel
✅Painful or discomfort with s*x
✅Discomfort when wearing a tampon
NICE guidelines recommend offering va**nal pessaries as a non-surgical management option for symptomatic pelvic organ prolapse.
The pessary is inserted into the va**na to support your va**nal tissues and restore the position of your pelvic organs. This does not “fix” or “cure” the prolapse but it can reduce or resolve your symptoms and allow you to return to your desired activity without surgery. There are different types of pessaries which can be explored with your physiotherapist, depending on your type of prolapse and needs. Some pessaries can be left in place for 6 months and checked by your doctor or physio. Or you can be taught to manage your pessary and remove daily or insert when required for example when exercising.
