A formal proposal has been submitted to the WHO, initiated by the and the , calling for food addiction to be officially recognised as a diagnosis, so that people can access the right treatment and support they deserve.

There is now a growing body of scientific evidence showing that sugar and ultra-processed foods can trigger addictive-like responses in the brain, similar to other substances. Research highlights their impact on dopamine pathways, intense cravings, loss of control, and continued use despite negative consequences - key hallmarks of addiction.

Recognising food addiction would mean improved awareness, stronger research frameworks, and, most importantly, access to appropriate treatment for those affected.

Thoroughly enjoyed leading last night’s From Stressed to Rested workshop.

We explored the many factors that can disrupt sleep, how the nervous system works and shared ways to help rebalance the nervous system. We slowed things down with a sensory tea tasting of chamomile, a softly soothing herbal nervine.

Huge thanks to and NHS hospital teams for taking the time to pause, reflect, and consider how best to support their nervous systems in a modern world that continually asks more of us.

It sparked an important question: why do we so often feel guilty when we rest? And what might change if we reframed rest as just as essential as water, nourishment, and movement for the body?

Rethinking fat: Is the science on saturated fat due for an update?

Nutrition science evolves, it isn’t static.

This article looks at the evidence behind saturated fat and why long-standing guidelines may deserve a closer look. It explores why long-held beliefs about saturated fat may not be as clear-cut as once thought.

A good reminder that health isn’t about fear, but about context, quality, and the whole picture. One thing is clear: choosing natural fats in whole foods over factory fats (highly processed, altered fats) is a wise place to start.

Why the idea of “moderate drinking = healthy” is being challenged … and what that means for your health.

For years, many of us heard that a “glass of wine with dinner” or an occasional drink might protect our heart, reduce diabetes risk, or even help us live longer. But the latest science is calling those assumptions into question.

Experts at Stanford say the idea that moderate, occasional alcohol consumption is beneficial, or even harmless, is outdated.

Even “safe” amounts carry risks.
- Studies now show that even relatively low levels of alcohol may raise the risk of several cancers (especially of the digestive tract) and cardiovascular disease.
- Alcohol, even in modest quantities , metabolises into acetaldehyde, a compound that damages DNA and other cellular structures. Chronic exposure may contribute to inflammation, ageing, and long-term health harms.
- Because people differ in genetics, body size, metabolism, age, s*x and existing health conditions, the same amount of alcohol can affect two individuals very differently … so “moderation” isn’t a one-size-fits-all guarantee.

Just as it took five decades (delayed by to***co lobbyists) for to***co to carry appropriate warnings, perhaps future generations will see alcohol similarly: a substance people can choose, but with transparent information about its risks rather than cultural myths of harmlessness or health benefits.

If you do choose to drink: be as informed and mindful as possible. Consider how often and how much, and weigh that against your overall health goals, stress levels, other lifestyle factors (sleep, diet, movement, rest).

Do we need to be scientists to feel the truth of this in our bodies.

There is no biological use for alcohol, it’s not a nutrient, not supportive, and not required for any physical process. So the question becomes: Do we really need science to tell us this, or is it time to move from knowledge into wisdom?

In today’s world, it’s easy to slip into patterns that don’t quite match our natural rhythm.

None of this is “wrong”, it’s simply the pace of modern life we have become accustomed to. But our hearts sometimes remind us when we’ve moved a little too far from what they know.

Wonderful Fire Cider workshop todayAnanda Yoga & Lifestyle Studio

The room was filled with the scent of garlic and herbs as we explored the power of humble kitchen staples: thyme, onion, garlic, bay, chilli, ginger and apple cider vinegar. These ingredients will now steep for a few weeks to become a warming tonic often enjoyed during colder months, and many people find it great for clearing the sinuses too.

For optimal immune health, our bodies are best supported by restorative sleep, nourishing wholefood, regular movement, managing stress and keeping sugar and alcohol on the low side.

Is it too early to mention stocking fillers?!

I’ve made a small festive batch of lip balm; this time in a delicious mandarin & black pepper blend.

Each balm comes in an aluminium tin (roughly 10–15ml).

It’s rich and long-lasting without being greasy, coats your lips beautifully and keeps them soft for hours. I use it every day! They last for months as only a small amount is needed.
