“ Countless studies show that we spend the whole day near a screen – on the phone, iPad, TV, or PC. Improve your health and energy levels with small changes. Try to start at least one new good habit a month, and you’re on the right track. The best piece of equipment you have is your body. The most powerful tool is your brain. Exercise is evolving past, 'Set your goals and don’t let anything get in your way,’ to getting to the root cause of why you’re unhealthy, why you’re unmotivated to eat right or get fit.. Your body believes what your mind tells it. “

“ Individuals from 35 years old onwards tend not to move or recover like their younger versions. This is in part due to a combination of the various stresses of family and worklife. The Kippington Fitness Club incorporates a lifestyle fitness approach to help individuals with their specific goals in a fun and result driven environment. We are here to help the over 35’s accomplish just that. ” Marcel Mendez and Jamie Gordon, Co-Founders, and Register of Fitness Professional Advanced Personal Fitness Coaches. The programs have been created in partnership with the Freedom PT Training, the elite academy which provides internationally recognised accreditation courses for fitness professionals at the Tonbridge School Sports Centre, a world class facility which recently hosted the Australian Athletics team. Kippington Centre, Kippington Road, Sevenoaks, Kent TN13 2LL. Sessions run every week thereafter. For more information please contact KippingtonFitnessClub@outlook.com . Kippington Fitness Club: Improving performance with SMR / Foam rolling techniques – Tuesdays 09:00-09:30am. Cost £5

As mentioned at the last session, we would like to add an important area to your program covering how you can use foam rolling techniques to help your body improve and recover better. Why? foam rolling is an efficient way to increase blood flow and prepare your muscles for exercise (and it can also be used post exercise or at any time). Foam rolling eases aches, pains and tension. The primary use of foam roller exercises is myofascial release, but rollers can also be used to train core strength and stability. What is Self Myofascial Release or “SMR” ? The superficial fascia is a soft connective tissue located just below the skin. It interconnects the muscles, bones, nerves and blood vessels of your body. Self Myofascial Release is stretching the fascia and releasing the tension that lies between the fascia, the muscle and the bone. The manipulation of the fascia, whether directly or indirectly, permits the connective tissue fibres to reorganise for increased flexibility and function. For example, muscle tightness restricts the range of motion that a joint may be moved. In a nutshell, there a multiple benefits of Self Myofascial Release, these include;
•Relieves and decreases muscle soreness
•Relief of stress on the joints
•Correction of muscle imbalances
•Reduced inflammation (especially good for runners)
•Flexibility - promote and maintain functional muscular length
•Improvement in balance
•Increased body awareness

At each session you will learn how to use the roller and come away with practical simple techniques to help your body become the best it can be. Which foam roller should I get? We would like to recommend that you choose a long 90 cm / 36 inch medium foam roller rather than the shorter version as it will allow you to roll with it perpendicular to your back, without fear of falling off the ends. It can also be used to create proper alignment by laying on it with the roller parallel to your spine. We’ve selected this one which is fit for purpose and reasonably priced http://www.amazon.co.uk/PhysioRoom-Elite-Blue-Foam-Roller/dp/B0057EQHU6/ref=sr_1_5/280-9073178-8695713?ie=UTF8&qid=1384334519&sr=8-5&keywords=reebok+foam+roller

If you prefer the Rolls Royce of the foam rollers – this is the one we would recommend however both work well. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Trigger-Point-Performance-Massage-Roller/dp/B006GUCAFG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1384966430&sr=8-2&keywords=the+grid+2.0+foam+roller

The best time of day to do your workouts
based on your fitness goals⭐️

Using the latest science on muscle clocks, the natural changes that occur to your body during each day and their timing, we break down the best time of day to do your workouts based on your goals.

⭐️My goal is to lose weight, so what is the best time of day to work out?

Fat utilisation tends to be greatest in the late morning. This is important and suggests that if losing weight is your primary health and fitness goal, you should exercise at around 10am or 11am.

⭐️My goal is to increase my cardiovascular fitness, so what is the best time of day to work out?

Just like fat utilisation, oxygen uptake for low- to moderate-intensity exercise appears to be optimised in the mid to late morning. However, if you are doing high-intensity training (HIT), there is not a preference for time of day for oxygen consumption. Therefore, if you are in good enough health for HIT and enjoy doing it, the body has been conditioned to respond optimally regardless of time of day.

⭐️My goal is to improve my overall health, so what is the best time to work out?

This is where muscle clocks come in. Muscle clocks work with all your biological clocks like the master
clock in the brain and other system clocks like the liver to synchronise your body and all its systems
for optimal functioning. Muscle clocks have the greatest response to exercise in the morning; therefore, the best time of day to work out for general health is during the morning.

⭐️My goal is to manage type II diabetes, so what time of day is best to work out?

Muscle clocks synchronise the muscles to the other body systems and this is important to help manage metabolic disease like diabetes. Because muscle clocks tend to respond best in the late
morning and fat utilisation is also optimised at that time, the suggestion is that people with diabetes exercise in the late morning.

⭐️My goal is to improve muscle strength and power, so what time of day is the best to work out?
Muscle pliability or the ability of a muscle to stretch is greatest from 4pm to 6pm; therefore, muscle strength and power outcomes are best between these times and the recommended time of day to do resistance training is 4pm to 6pm.

⭐️What about youth and young adults? Are there any special considerations?
In a June 2022 study on people aged 17-21, time of day affected motor co-ordination in general.
Specifically, motor ability, agility and muscle strength were best from noon to late in the afternoon.
Therefore, when thinking about young people and both safety and performance during exercise, the best time of day to exercise is from noon to 4pm/6pm.
