Posture Works

Posture Works I'm a trauma-informed somatic teacher and movement coach and love working with people who have scoliosis and spinal conditions.

I help clients move more efficiently and help them process the trauma and anxiety that often accompany these conditions. I have an idiopathic scoliosis and have retrained to help and support others with scoliosis and spinal conditions.

SCOLIOSIS

Scoliosis is a condition where the spine curves sideways, often creating an “S” or “C” shape rather than a straight line. It will also have a rotation. This curvature affects posture, muscle balance, and the way the body moves, leading to discomfort or uneven strength patterns. While every spine is unique, you can benefit from targeted, stabilising exercises that support alignment, improve control, and reduce strain on the back.

I provide safer, more effective core training focusing on anti‑movement exercises that teach your body to resist rotation, extension, and side‑bending. These build real stability without irritating your back.

If you want structured, scoliosis‑friendly workouts like these, I’m opening a new monthly membership — Somatic Strength for Scoliosis — with a special founding member rate. Comment or message me if you’d like the details.

For anyone who grew up with scoliosis…

What part of your scoliosis story do you wish your younger self had more support with.

Looking back now, what do you wish someone had explained, normalised, or helped you understand about your body.
The emotional side?
The physical side?
The long‑term plan?
Or simply that you weren’t alone.

I’d love to hear your experience — your story might be the thing someone else needs to read today.

SCOLIOSIS

For those who grew up with scoliosis…
Do you know what your original scoliosis classification was — and do you feel you were given the right care plan to support you into adulthood?

Many people were diagnosed young, given a label, and then left to “get on with it” as they grew older. Others were told their curve was “mild” and didn’t need follow‑up, only to find their symptoms changed over time. Some were supported well, and some were not supported at all.

What were you told back then — and how does your body feel now. I’d love to hear your experience.

ONLINE COACHING

Moving your body shouldn’t depend on rushing across town, finding parking, or squeezing yourself into someone else’s timetable. Working online gives you space to show up as you are — in your own home, in your own clothes, with your own rhythm.

So many people think strength work has to look a certain way — fast, sweaty, intense, or performed in a studio. The Somatic Strength Method takes a different approach. It’s about learning to feel your body, understand your patterns, and build strength in a way that supports your nervous system rather than overwhelming it. This is why it works well for anyone with scoliosis.

Working online actually enhances this. You’re in your own space, with fewer external cues pulling you into performance mode. You can listen more closely, move more honestly, and build strength that’s deeply connected to how you live, rest, and carry yourself through the day.

Somatic strength isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing what’s right for your body, with clarity, curiosity, and compassion — wherever you are.

🌿 Change and Transition 🌿

This year has been one of deep change for me. Losing both my husband and mother-in-law has left me navigating grief in ways I never imagined. It’s shifted my perspective on life and work, and left me asking: what feels sustainable, meaningful, and true right now?

I am still coaching, but I’m tapping into that deep inner tuition — a inner compass of what truly feels sustainable in this season. I poured myself into somatic coaching — supporting others through pain, posture, and trauma. That work will always be close to my heart, but right now, I also need a different focus. One that draws on my strengths, gives me purpose, and offers the steadiness I need while I move through my own healing.

This moment feels like a natural turning — a letting go, but also a gathering of what will carry me forward. I’m returning to the work I’ve done for 30+ years: supporting individuals and businesses with organisation, clarity, and creative solutions. Alongside this, I’ll also be mentoring others as they step into their own growth and learning journeys.

I’ll share more in my next post, but for now, I want to thank everyone who has walked alongside me in this transition. 💜

FEET

The one body part people seem to neglect. The human foot is a complex structure made up of 26 bones, 33 joints, and over 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments. This intricate network allows for a wide range of motion and provides stability as we walk, run, and jump.

Muscles in the foot can be divided into intrinsic muscles (which originate and insert within the foot) and extrinsic muscles (which originate in the leg and insert in the foot). The intrinsic muscles help with fine motor control and maintain the arches, while the extrinsic muscles are crucial for powerful movements.

Ligaments in the foot, like the plantar fascia, play a vital role in providing support and maintaining the foot's shape. With such a crucial role in our mobility and overall health, it’s essential to give our feet the attention and care they require, just like any other part of our body. Regular stretching, proper footwear, and foot exercises can help keep them healthy and functioning well!
