VJ Day, Victory over Japan Day, commemorates the formal surrender of Japan to the Allied forces on August 15, 1945, officially ending World War II.

This day marked the end of the Pacific War and the conclusion of the global conflict.
While VE Day (Victory in Europe) occurred in May 1945, the war with Japan continued and VJ Day signifies the final cessation of hostilities.

Here are 5 fascinating facts about elephants:
Incredible memory – Elephants can remember watering holes, migration routes, and other elephants for decades.
Highly social – They live in tight-knit family groups led by a matriarch.
Emotional intelligence – Elephants show empathy, grief, and even comfort distressed herd members.
Communication skills – They “talk” using low-frequency rumbles that can travel several miles.
Environmental impact – Elephants shape their ecosystems by creating water holes, dispersing seeds, and clearing vegetation.

Elmes Homecare is loving this summer, though we do feel the sun has been a bit shy recently! We are busier than ever and we are currently hiring. We have openings for full and part time care workers, and we'd especially like to hear from people seeking evening or weekend work. We offer training, and we cover all PPE, uniform and DBS costs.

From a couple of hours of companionship one day a week, to overnight and/or live in care, we help people stay happy, stay safe and stay in their own homes throughout and all surrounding areas.

Today is Bastille Day, a national holiday in France. In 1789 the citizens of Paris stormed the Bastille prison with cries of Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité, and the French Revolution started. In France, it’s not actually called Bastille Day, but rather “Le 14 juillet” (the 14th of July) or “La fete nationale” (the national holiday). This is a shout out to one of our client's family in France, and wishing them a wonderful holiday weekend.

On 7 July 2005, 4 bombs exploded across London at Aldgate Station, Edgware Road, King’s Cross/Russell Square and Tavistock Square, taking 52 lives and injuring many more.

2025 marks the 20th anniversary of the bombings. So hard to believe that20 years have passed - our thoughts are with the families and friends of all those taken too soon, and those who lived through attacks.
