Happy Birthday Eileen

Tuesday at Claremont saw us celebrating the Birthday of our lovely resident Eileen with a delicious cake made by our head chef Jorge.

Eileen had a lovely day with friends and family who took her out for a pub lunch to celebrate the occasion and had lots of lovely cards and gifts.

"Shaking the Stage"

Monday at Claremont saw us welcome back Spencer J who brought the golden age of rock 'n' roll to life with a lively performance for our residents.
With timeless hits made famous by legends like Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, and other icons of the 1950s and '60s, Spencer filled the room with energy, nostalgia, and plenty of toe-tapping rhythms.

Residents, smiled, clapped along, sang, and some even danced in their seats as he recreated the spirit of the era with charm and enthusiasm.

The afternoon was a joyful trip down memory lane, reminding everyone of the music that shaped a generation.

A Morning for Macmillan

This morning saw residents and friends come together for a heart-warming Coffee Morning in support of Macmillan Cancer filling the room with the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee and scrummy cakes baked by our head chef Jorge.

Friends caught up and newcomers were welcomed with smiles, all united by a shared desire to make a difference.

Every cup poured and every donation collected helps Macmillan provide vital care and guidance for people affected by cancer.
The event was more than just a gathering - It was a celebration of community spirit and kindness, showing how small gestures can add up to meaningful support for a cause close to many hearts.

Thank you to everyone that supported us today and enjoyed the lovely carrot cake and walnut and coffee cake.

Spin & Grin: The Golden Years Edition

Although the photos may show a few serious faces, our residents were anything but gloomy during their lively game of Spin the Bottle.
Each spin came with a playful challenge, and when the bottle stopped, everyone paused in concentration - carefully plotting their next move or witty response.
The thoughtful expressions captured on camera were really moments of focus and anticipation, proof that behind every quiet look was a spark of strategy and fun.

As residents sang songs, made up poems about fellow residents, told us there most embarrassing moments in public and much more!
Definitely a fun afternoon all round.

🖌️ Virtual V&A Make-along 🎨

In celebration of National Day of Arts in Care Homes, residents and patients across the country enjoyed a wonderful V&A Virtual Make-along experience with Holly from the V&A Learning team and designer-artist Rafin Jannat.

Taking inspiration from the South Asia Gallery at the museum, everyone had the chance to experiment with paints and pigments made from everyday ingredients, creating their own unique artworks.

It was a calming, creative experience that everyone truly enjoyed. A big thank you to the Victoria and Albert Museum team for leading such an inspiring session!

"Celebrating One Year of Giggles"

Today at our parent and baby group we celebrated a very special milestone - Our little friend Leon will be celebrating his first Birthday on Saturday and we had an early celebration for him today!

Over the past year we have watched him grow from a tiny baby into a curious explorer, cheering as he learned to crawl, pull himself up, and take those first exciting steps.
It's been such a joy for our Parent and Baby Group to witness each new skill and each bright smile.

We all enjoyed sharing the lovely cake made by our chef Jorge.

Happy Birthday Leon and we all look forward to seeing you continue to thrive and grow.

"Little Hooves, Big Smiles"

A visit from Fern and Pepper who are two adorable donkeys from magical mini donkeys and their lovely owner Helen offered far more than a charming spectacle for care-home residents-it provides a genuine boost to emotional and physical well-being.

Research shows that gentle animal interaction can lower blood pressure, ease stress, and release mood-lifting hormones, benefits that are especially meaningful for older adults.

The donkeys' soft coats, quiet brays, and warm presence invited touch and sparked memories, engaging all senses and encouraging conversation.
Residents often share stories of childhood pets or farm life, creating natural moments of reminiscing and connection.

The result is a heart-warming encounter that lifts spirits, reduces loneliness, and turns an ordinary afternoon into an unforgettable experience of companionship and joy.

"Senior Safari: The Hippo Challenge"

At Claremont Parkway Care Home - Barchester Healthcare we introduced a new activity called "Golden Hippos". a playful, adult-friendly twist on the classic Hungry Hippo game.

With fishing nets and buckets the timer was set to see who could scoop out the most balls from the pool!
Beyond the laughter and friendly competition the game encouraged gentle movement, sharpened hand-eye coordination, and sparked joyful memories of childhood games, it also sparked conversations of residents going fishing with a
few of them having tales to tell.

"Celebrating the Team that keep us Gleaming"

During Housekeeping Week, Claremont Parkway Care Home - Barchester Healthcare proudly celebrated its dedicated housekeeping team, whose hard work keeps every corner clean, comfortable, and welcoming for residents and visitors alike.

To show appreciation for their daily efforts, Deputy Manager Nico personally presented each team member with chocolates and fresh flowers, offering warm thanks on behalf of everyone at the home.

The thoughtful gesture brought smiles all around and highlighted how essential the housekeeping staff are to the home's friendly, well - cared for atmosphere not to mention keeping everyone s***k and span with clean laundry.

"Residents Stretch into Wellness on National Fitness Day"

Residents at Claremont Parkway Care Home - Barchester Healthcare marked National Fitness Day with a gentle but engaging workout that incorporated light weight batons to add balance and fun, residents used the batons to support stretches, improve posture, and build coordination, all while keeping movements easy on the joints.

The simple props encouraged everyone to stay active, socialize, and enjoy a safe, low - impact routine that promoted strength and flexibility.

🎉 Lotus Manor is Now Open 🎉

We’re excited to share that Lotus Manor Care Home in has opened its doors in style, with a Grand Opening performed by the Deputy Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Jane Tyson, in front of invited guests from the local community.

Our CEO, Dr Pete Calveley, and General Manager, Candy Guo, hosted the event and invited guests to view the stunning new 64-bed care home.

Designed with residents’ comfort in mind, Lotus Manor Care Home will offer residential support, respite stays and specialist dementia care, all delivered by a dedicated and passionate team of trained professionals.

🚑 Celebrating Emergency Services Day 🚒👏

Residents, patients, colleagues and visitors marked this year’s Emergency Services Day in style, recognising the contribution of local emergency services, volunteers and heroes.

Our homes and hospitals hosted a variety of community events, from coffee mornings to afternoon garden parties, inviting emergency services personnel to join for hot drinks and delicious home-made cakes.

Everyone had a wonderful time, visiting local emergency services sites, engaging in conversations and sharing inspirational stories of emergency services heroes, both past and present.

✨ Celebrating Veteran-friendly Status ✨

Staff and residents at Wimborne Care Home in are celebrating because the home has achieved veteran-friendly status!

Wimborne has strong links to the military and is home to several ex-servicemen and women. At the start of 2025, the home proudly pledged its support to the Veteran-Friendly Framework and has been working towards Veteran-Friendly Status ever since in order to best serve its military residents and their families.

The Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF) was launched in October 2023, with the aim of tackling loneliness and isolation, and delivering improved health and wellbeing for over 25,000 veterans living in care homes across England.

Sarah Peach, General Manager at Wimborne Care Home, commented: “There are eight different standards to work through in order to achieve Veteran Friendly Status so you do need to be committed. But if like me and my team, you are passionate then it is a joy to complete and very informative. We have all loved doing it, meeting new people and taking part in charity events for veterans. We all thought it was an important step for a home like ours with so many links to the military and I know our team are delighted that we have been able to do this for our residents and their loved ones.”

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve been shortlisted for the ‘Care Home Group of the Year’ category at the prestigious LaingBuisson Awards.

Now in their 20th year, the awards recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements in the UK health and social care industry.

With more than 400 entries submitted across each category, being named a finalist is a real honour.

This recognition is a true reflection of the dedication, hard work and compassion of all our teams and colleagues across Barchester – a big thank you for everything they do each day! 👏

✨🎭 Bringing the Fringe to Strachan House ✨🎵

Residents, families and visitors at Strachan House Care Home in enjoyed an afternoon of fantastic performances as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Care Fest.

Now in its third year, the Fringe Care Fest brings the magic of the Fringe directly to care home residents who can no longer visit the festival venues.

Talented singer and pianist Jacqui Randa warmed up the crowd with her excellent keyboard skills and cheeky anecdotes. After a short break for more prosecco in the sun, everyone relaxed to the wonderful voice of Duane Forrest.

It was an amazing experience, complete with a special party menu from the home’s kitchen team, plenty of drinks – and of course, lots of dancing.

A big thank you to all involved in making this event such a success. 👏
