🏆🍧 💖 Every Saturday we host our weekly game of Carpet Bowls, which has become a cherished tradition, bringing joy, friendly competition, and a sense of community to the residents. Each week our Daisy Lane Community Lounge is transformed in to a miniature bowling area, and the air fills with gentle concentration as everyone focusses on wining the trophies. The first Trophy played for is the 'Mini League' followed by the Trophy for the 'Knock Out Cup'. The game is the highlight of the week for many of the residents and is eagerly anticipated by the residents who look forward to the friendly rivalry and social interaction it provides.

🎤🎵 Come Sing! To Feel Good 🎤🎵

Residents and patients across the country had a fantastic time joining Dan Cooper, Vocal Coach from Biiah, for a lively summer virtual sing-along.

With the uplifting ‘Que Sera Sera’ by Doris Day and ‘Wouldn’t It Be Nice’ by The Beach Boys, there was plenty of singing and dancing all around.

The session was a great success, bringing benefits for the mind, body and soul, and leaving everyone with a dose of summer cheer.

A big thank you to Dan Cooper for the wonderful experience. 👏

Ashlar House Care Home in turned back the clock for a spectacular Summer Fete inspired by the glamour of the 1920s.

Residents, families, colleagues and guests dressed to impress, bringing the glamour and spirit of the Jazz Age to life.

From Charleston dancing and live entertainment to delicious food, sweet treats and a much-loved raffle. There was something for everyone to enjoy.

💐🐝💐In the age of constant stimulation and complex technologies, it is easy to overlook the profound joy that is found in life's simplest pleasures. For many residents of care homes, this isn't a choice but a way of life, and one of the most cherished sanctuaries is the garden. A garden offers more than just a beautiful view; it offers a tangible connection with the natural world. For our residents spending quality time outside amongst the flowers, trees, and the gentle buzz of bees allows them to engage their senses and reconnect with memories. The earthy scent of soil, the vibrant colours of blooming petals, and the warmth of the sun on their skin evokes powerful feelings of peace and contentment.

We do not always need big activities and events, sometimes it is the little things that truly matter.

🎉 Port Manor is Now Open 🎉

We’re thrilled to share that our new luxury care home in has opened its doors in style, with a Grand Opening performed by the Mayor of Seaford, Councillor Maggie Wearmouth, in front of invited guests from the local community.

Our CEO, Dr Pete Calveley, and General Manager, Nancy Walford, hosted the event and invited guests to view the stunning new 55-bed care home, which is now open and ready to welcome its first residents.

Designed with residents’ comfort in mind, Port Manor Care Home will offer residential support, respite stays and specialist dementia care, all delivered by a dedicated and passionate team of trained professionals.

🍎📚 The Kirkburn Classroom 🍏🎨

The team at Kirkburn Court Care Home in , Scotland, recently launched a new initiative called ‘The Kirkburn Classroom’.

The first session was led by Ina, a resident at the home, who took on the task of teaching everyone how to crochet.

Ina admitted she hadn’t done any crocheting for quite a while and warned she might be a bit rusty – but as soon as she picked up the hook and wool, she was off to a flying start!

She showed great patience helping everyone get started and all involved commented on how much they enjoyed the experience.

The team was pleased to report that almost everyone behaved well in class – with just a little bit of mischief.

What a fantastic afternoon. 👏

🎭🎤🎶🎼🎭Residents were treated to a truly magical outdoor theatre performance from Northeast Producers who performed live with a show called 'Memories are Made of This'.
The show was performed in our lovely garden, on a glorious day which offered a captivating blend of music, storytelling and dance.
For many of our residents, it was a poignant reminder of days gone by when they too would have visited the theatre.

👑 A Royal Encounter to Remember 👑

It was a truly special day for Greta, Joan and Beryl, residents at Hilton Park Care Home in , Cambridge, as they had the remarkable opportunity to meet King Charles and Queen Camilla.

There were smiles, handshakes and heartfelt moments that everyone will remember. His Majesty asked the ladies how they were and whether they’d been well looked after. Greta, moved by the kindness shown, replied with a heartfelt “yes” - and became quite emotional.

Greta, Joan and Beryl had the privilege of meeting the royals and were lucky enough to exchange a few words with the King.

It’s never too late for a once-in-a-lifetime moment.

📷 Wildlife Through the Lens – Photography Exhibition for Charity 📷

Reji Joseph, Home Administrator at Middletown Grange Care Home in , near Witney, is hosting his first-ever photography exhibition and sale to raise funds for Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

A passionate wildlife photographer, Reji is showcasing 125 original images at the home from 27 August to 7 September.

Guests are invited to view the stunning photographs, meet Reji and support the Foundation through any purchases.

Originally from Ootacamund, a small town in Tamil Nadu, South India, Reji’s lifelong love of nature inspired his move from landscape to wildlife photography.

Some of his favourite photography spots include Slimbridge for birds, Skomer Island where he has captured puffins, and Bempton Cliffs, where he was once lucky enough to photograph a black-browed albatross. He also continues to photograph wildlife during visits back to India.

Come along and discover the beauty of wildlife through Reji’s lens – all for a great cause. 🎉

✏️✏️This weekend we had our firm favourite, BINGO!, it was dabbers at the ready and eyes down. Bingo is a very popular game at the home and runs every Saturday afternoon with a room full of residents eagerly awaiting to see if they get a full house and win a prize. It is a game that brings all together and provides for a fun and enjoyable afternoon for all. Residents who are unable to play for themselves independently will have a card played on their behalf, making the game truly inclusive for all.

🍺🍻🍺Yesterday we celebrated International Beer Day, transforming our lounge into a pub for the afternoon. Residents came together to enjoy a traditional pub quiz and a carefully selected assortment of beers, proving that a good time knows no age. No one missed out as the tipple trolley made it's rounds reaching those in their rooms as well as those who opted to watch a movie in the homes cinema lounge. These days really highlight the importance of such events within a care home setting, they truly offer a break from the routine and a fantastic opportunity for all to get together and socialise and it is a reminder that life is full of small, wonderful pleasures.🍺🍻🍺

🎉 Bruce Turns 100 in True Highland Style at Seaview House 🎉

There was no quiet tea party for Bruce’s 100th birthday – the much-loved Navy veteran had other plans. From kilts and Highland dancers to fish and chips, live music and a showstopping cake, Bruce celebrated his milestone in style, surrounded by fellow residents, friends and family.

Bruce proudly wore full Highland attire, complete with the striking Highland Pride tartan, custom-made by Chisholms Highland Dress.

The day featured a piper parade, traditional dancing, a heartfelt ballad performed by a fellow resident and even some brilliant spoon playing.

The celebration ended on a royal note – with a birthday card from King Charles himself and a surprise invitation to the royal tent at the Mey Games.

Bruce’s verdict on the day?

“Yes…now I’ve started making a list for next year.”

Here’s to Bruce – Happy 100th Birthday! 👏

Matt delivered a show that was nothing short of magical, the performance was a huge hit, with residents tapping their feet, dancing along and even getting up to sing alongside Matt himself. The lively atmosphere was a testament to the power of music and Matts ability to connect with the audience, it created for a wonderful uplifting memorable afternoon of entertainment for all.

🦙 Close Encounters of the Furry Kind - Residents are Visited by Alpasta the Alpaca 🦙

Colleagues and residents at The Dales Care Home at were treated to a visit from a beautiful therapy pet.

Animals have a wonderful calming effect and the residents love to stroke them, talk to them and play with them so they all jumped at the chance to meet an alpaca.

The home was visited by Alpasta the alpaca from HART Animals for KIDS and caused a great deal of excitement.

Everyone truly enjoyed the visit, they petted and fed Alpasta who seemed to appreciate meeting his new friends.

What a fascinating experience. 👏

⭐ Barchester Care Awards 2025 – Chef of the Year: Divisional Winners ⭐

Following our recent Regional Cook-Offs, the 2025 Care Awards Divisional Chef Winners have been chosen!

Congratulations to …

• Martin Hall - Wheatlands
• Stewart Sturgeon - Highview House
• Mark Eaton - Glenroyd
• Abin Babu - Friston House

The chefs were over the moon to have been named Divisional Winners for their regions after beating dozens of other chef nominees to make it to the Divisional Cook-Offs and then be crowned Divisional Winner following a closely fought final.

The Divisional Winners are now invited to the Grand Final. The National Winner in this category will be announced at the Care Awards ceremony in October.

🎤🎼🎶💖 What a truly magical afternoon for everyone during our monthly Community Dementia Café, held on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Due to the unpredictable weather the café was held inside this month. It truly is a lovely afternoon offering a chance for the community to get together with their loved ones who are living with dementia and enjoy an afternoon of music and dance. This month we had the pleasure of being entertained by 'Happy Together' Ukulele band, and they were truly fantastic.

💖🍧🍧🍧💖What a delightful afternoon was had here at the home as we got busy creating delicious Ice-cream Sundaes to celebrate National Ice Cream Day. It was perfect weather, sun shining and this was the only way to cool down!

The residents created their very own Sundaes on our Blossom Community and shared out amongst others within the community, it was a real afternoon of some wonderful creations. It gave everyone creating and working together a real sense of purpose and a chance to reminisce on times past having ice-cream as a treat.

Last week we held our first Summer Fete here at the home for some time, and it was the perfect warm day for it!

Everyone had a fantastic time, families and loved ones came together to enjoy the fete that was held in the homes beautiful garden. The day was filled with laughter and joy, with stall holders and live music it was simply perfect. Residents danced and sang the afternoon away, and with the warm weather the ice lollies were out.

🐝🐝🐝We love to ensure that our residents enjoy a whole host of new experiences and activities, last week we had the pleasure of inviting local beekeeper Mark from 'Happybees Honey' for an engaging and educational session on beekeeping. The residents were captivated as Mark offered a unique glimpse into the intricate world of beehives and the dedicated work of these incredible insects. The visit was not only informative it also offered significant benefits with opportunities for questions and discussions, stimulated cognitive engagement as well as a wonderful sensory experience. The session sparked memories for residents of gardens, nature and simpler times, which fostered a sense of nostalgia and well being.

🍰🎶🎼🎤🍰Recently we enjoyed a delightful afternoon filled with music and cheer, which highlights the invaluable benefits of outdoor events for our residents well-being. Outdoor events offer a change of scenery from the indoor environment and also promote physical activity with gentle movement and engagement. We truly like to enrich our residents days with happiness and purpose. The highlight of the afternoon came when we all sang happy birthday to one of our lovely residents Joyce, making her afternoon extra special.

We also celebrated World Chocolate Day, with a chocolate themed quiz which got all talking and thinking. The chefs meticulously crafted a magnificent chocolate cake for each community to enjoy, which certainly went down well.
