Team Sebastian

Team Sebastian In January 2024, Sebastian Nunney lost his battle with Neuroblastoma aged six.

We continue to fundraise with Orange Day and The Seb Factor to try and support local children and their families affected by complex medical conditions.

Do you fancy running the Kettering Half Marathon next year and raising money for Team Sebastian as you do?

Don't worry if you've never done it before. Back in 2011 I took on the challenge to run the Loch Ness marathon. I'd only been running for a few months but the challenge was too much to resist.

I completed the event in around 4.5 hours and raised money for Lakelands Hospice in Corby at the same time.

As we now have a new half marathon in Kettering, it only seems right and fitting that, as it is just a few days before Orange Day 2026, we use it to raise money for next years appeal.

Orange Day money will once again help local children and their families to navigate the financial and emotional strain of complex medical needs. We are pleased to partner with Youth Works Northamptonshire and the local hospitals to do so.

One Park Run into training and I'm nursing a broken toe - my plan was to invite anyone who fancies joining us next March to come to park run and run with us this weekend, but as I'm out of action for a few weeks, I'd like to remind everyone that is you'd like to run the Kettering Half Marathon as part of Team Sebastian next year just email and we will start our proper 'team training in a few weeks!

Hopefully Rosie Wrighting and Lee Barron - Proud Member of Parliament for Corby & East Northants - this is something you will support.

Rare cancers normally go undetected because the symptoms are mistaken for other things.

By the time we knew what was wrong with Sebastian, he had begun his six month stay in the Critical Care Unit. We need to know more about rare cancers so fewer children face what our little man had to.

Sorry for pinching your slides Solving Kids' Cancer

There is a discussion in Parliament today regarding Hugh's Law - a potential new piece of legislation that would mean parents of children who are very sick and in hospital would be entitled to more paid time away from work.

It is an impossible situation unless you have been there - overnight you go from getting ready for work to an unknown length of time in intensive care.

We were lucky to have employers who supported us when Sebastian was first taken ill, which is why we have been using Team Sebastian money to support families who have been in our situation but with either no support from work or having to leave intensive care just to pay the bills.

A childhood cancer diagnosis costs a family around £750 a month. We really hope the law is changed to support families during these unimaginable times.

This muddy pair are Seb and Amelee and they have taken part in the Race For Life: Pretty Muddy today.

They have done it with photo of Sebastian on their backs in memory of our special little man.

Well done for finishing you two!

July is always a tough month for us – it was five years ago when Sebastian was first diagnosed, three when he started treatment after his first relapse, and two years since we found out about his second relapse.

We miss him every day, but it always puts a smile on our face to see others celebrating his memory.
