Conversation relies on social cues, such as a change in tone, a sigh, a change in breathing or a reliance on content and context. Our hearing can become strained, and conversations become tiring. Soon we start to avoid complex and confusing social situations, which can lead to isolation and depression.

Safety
Healthy hearing warns you of possible dangers. Hearing clearly with both ears lets you detect where sounds are coming from and react accordingly. A car horn, a fire alarm, or a warning shout all help you take the action needed to avoid accidents or injury.

Memory
Hearing is a vital part of our brain’s recall, and complementary sounds can help us store information about a past event or experience. Many memories rely on sounds such as live music, laughter or family members singing Happy Birthday. One study of over 600 adults claimed that even mild hearing loss doubles our risk of dementia.

Simple Pleasures
As well as listening to music, television or going to the cinema, healthy hearing allows you to appreciate everyday sounds. We might include birdsong, the babbling of a brook or the wind whistling through the trees.

Hearing Life Support
Healthy hearing allows us to perceive sounds and noises from our environment and learn and adapt. Giving your brain the freedom to process those sounds can enhance your quality of life. With all of the technological advances that can support your hearing, we can help you find a solution to the changes in your hearing

Hearing loss can contribute to feelings of isolation and a reluctance to attend social events.

Once you accept it, you take power away from anyone else that can make you feel bad about it. Hearing aids help you hear better and can facilitate better communication skills. You will have far more fulfilling conversations and remain active in social gatherings.

Come and see us for your free hearing check and a sympathetic ear. Call us on 0800 083 2547 to book an appointment.

Studies suggest that even a mild hearing loss makes the brain work harder to process sounds. This extra effort can come at the expense of other cognitive functions, such as memory.

That’s why it’s so important to have your hearing checked regularly and to act on professional recommendations.
