It’s been an action-packed August across our three centres 🤩 here are a few things that we’ve been up to:

1) Corby members were at East Carlton Country Park selling their painted garden ornaments in the sun ☀️

2) Derek and Mark headed to Tesco Wellingborough to host a craft stall

3) Rea, Michael, Derek, and Rita completed a six-week cooking programme with Adult Learning - Northamptonshire. In the final session, they made scones!

4) Wellingborough members have been getting crafty. From origami, to paper weaving and mosaic making - they made some fabulous creations 👏

5) Our local PCSO Kayleigh took some of our members for another tour around Wellingborough Police Station

6) We supported a fellow local charity, the Daylight Centre, at their open day

7) We also visited the Daylight Veggie Patch for their open day BBQ

8) The brilliant Ben has been in training for his 50km row in aid of Teamwork 🚣

9) Mark couldn’t wait to show everyone his new pencil case created at O’Neills Cafe with Discover Craft

10) Campbell and our Corby members have been working hard on outsourcing, assembling boxes

11) We’ve also been busy in the kitchen at our Corby centre, making lime cupcakes! 🧁

We’re blessed to have a team of amazing volunteers who support us in our mission 🙌

And we recently held celebrations across our three centres for our volunteers, to thank them for their continued hard work and dedication.

Not all of our volunteering activities involve manual work. Take the recent National Girlfriends Day, as an example 💅

The day is to encourage women to get together and celebrate their special bond of friendship.

And to celebrate this in Kettering, some of our members visited our local Costa Coffee for a fun morning of nail painting and chatting over coffee and biscuits.

Serena and Nikita from HVSS were volunteering with us at the centre for the day, and they joined the group for the morning.

We all had a lovely time and really strengthened our friendships together.

A huge thank you to the team at Costa for hosting us 💙

Independence looks different to each one of our members at Teamwork.

To some, independence is being able to write well ✍️

And we recently held a handwriting session at our Kettering centre.

The session included drawing straight lines, making loops, and looking at the formation of letters, using templates to practice.

As you can see, our members did brilliantly! 👏

We're hosting an art auction with wine and nibbles at our Kettering centre - and you're invited! 🤩

Taking place on Wednesday 3rd September, the auction will feature unique, hand-painted garden ornaments.

All created by our talented members 👏

Tickets are just £5, and every penny we raise will go towards our work in enriching the lives of adults with learning disabilities and autism.

We’ve been celebrating differences at our Wellingborough centre, with a series of informative workshops 🙌

The sessions are being held to help us develop an answer to the following question:

How can we embrace the wide variety of differences in the people we meet day to day, those in our centres and potential new members?

Workshops so far have included understanding the needs of people with various disabilities - hearing and visual impairments and wheelchair users.

And we’ve included practical opportunities wherever possible, for members to gain insight into the needs of those with disabilities.

There was also a session focused on gender identity, which featured a fantastic presentation about PRIDE from member Kali 🏳️‍🌈

We’ve got more workshops and presentations lined up, including one looking at cultural differences.

Going to the tills in shops can present many of us with severe anxiety 😥

Questioning if we’re buying the correct items, not knowing if we have enough money, and mindful of other people around us.

We hold exercises with our members to reduce that anxiety and give them confidence when out shopping 🛒

We recently held a group session with Donald, Joel, Ashley and Robson, where they had to buy furniture for a bedroom after a hypothetical redecoration.

They wrote a shopping list of suitable items, and visited a local store to pick the items out.

While doing that they worked out if the items were priced within their £100 budget, and how much change they’d get.

Before heading to the till with confidence, and achieving their version of independence.

We have a strong commitment to supporting young adults as they prepare for adulthood 🙌

Our transitions programme is led by John, who is a former senior SEN teacher and behaviour specialist.

John works in partnership with local schools to provide meaningful experiences that build confidence, independence, and real-world skills.

We know we're not the final destination for school leavers - our role is to support young adults to continue developing skills and move forward with purpose.

And we do that through a stimulating and aspirational curriculum, that has been co-produced with our members.

Our members are loving their time volunteering at Lakelands Hospice 🌱

With the help of David, who volunteers at our Corby centre, we’ve built, painted and planted two raised beds as part of a sensory herb patch.

Here’s what our members have said:

Michael’s been busy looking after the 100 trees we planted, and picking his first potatoes! 🌳🥔

Our members planted the 100 trees at our Wellingborough centre earlier this year.

And Michael is loving watering them regularly and removing any weeds.

He said he’ll have more of an update for us when they grow bigger 😁

In the meantime, he has proudly collected his homegrown potatoes, which will be used during our cooking lessons 🧑‍🍳

The tree planting and potato growing is part of our MyEnterprise programme, which takes members' ideas from a group discussion all the way through to a working social enterprise.

We’ll use any crops in our kitchens, with any surplus being sold to raise funds for further enterprise opportunities like this.

To provide our members with more chances, choices and opportunities to live full, purposeful and independent lives.

Meet Veronica! 👋 Veronica is our Finance Officer - but her role isn't limited to just finance.

Since joining us in March 2024, Veronica has become a big part of our team and goes above and beyond to support our members in achieving their version of independence.

She was recently nominated by the wider team for Trustee recognition, for living our values - Pride, Purpose, Direction, Interest, Fun.

"Time is probably one of the best gifts you can give to someone, so if I can spend a few minutes taking the time for a chat with someone, taking them for a walk, or for their lunch, then I will." 💬

We're proud of our local communities and will always do our best to look after them 🫶

A group of our members recently headed out to do some litter picking, and they did amazingly well.

The group collected seven bags of rubbish and a bag of cans.

A huge well done, team 👏

And a shout out to Kettering Wombles for their hard work in keeping our community clean and tidy.
