February's yoga theme is: Ahimsa, Loving Kindness
It's very nearly the end of winter! The days are getting longer, with the quiet promise of spring in a few weeks time. In yoga classes we are exploring being heart centred, both physically and emotionally. Gentle backbends, steady standing poses, and mindful transitions will help create space across the chest and shoulders, encouraging ease in posture and breath.
In meditation, we reflect on Ahimsa, the yoga philosophy of non-harming or loving kindness. First we show kindness towards ourselves, then extend that warmth, kindness and gratitude outwards to others and the world.
Breathing technique: Alternate nostril breathing (Anulom vilom), is a calming and balancing technique that soothes the nervous system and clears the mind.
Pose of the month: Cobra pose, or Bhujangasana, is a gentle heart opening pose that strengthens the back body while lifting the chest with confidence and grace.
Remember: Please wrap up warm, wear layers, and bring a cosy blanket if you like for our rest and guided meditation at the end of class.
