You will get there.

But today, in the middle of the emails, appointments and an endless to‑do list, see if you can find one tiny moment to pause.

The cup of tea that’s still warm in your hands. The way the light falls across the floor. The sound of someone you love in the next room.

When you stop, your whole system gently resets – your shoulders drop, your breath softens, your mind clears.

The list will still be there when you return, but you’ll meet it with a calmer nervous system and a fresher brain.

“The moment you change your perception is the moment you rewrite the chemistry in your body.”

I can’t emphasise enough how important this is.

Every thought you have changes the chemicals released in your brain and body ⚛️

Worry and rumination trigger the stress hormone cortisol; uplifting thoughts increase the feel‑good neurotransmitter serotonin; warm, positive interactions boost oxytocin, our bonding hormone.

Why does that matter?

Raised cortisol can suppress parts of your immune system, increase blood pressure and disrupt digestion, and over time it can cloud thinking and memory 😶‍🌫️

Serotonin supports mood, resilience and clearer, more flexible thinking, and even plays a role in pain and immune regulation. Oxytocin helps reduce anxiety, supports trust and connection, and strengthens social bonds.

I know which chemistry I’d rather have flooding my system 🤗

🌟The important thing is this: it isn’t the situation itself that decides which chemicals you release, it’s how you think about it 🌟

That means even in really tough circumstances, you can start to help yourself by shifting your perception.

My clients often describe how a situation that once felt desperate becomes something they can cope with, simply because we’ve helped their brain see it differently. The facts of the situation may not change, but their inner experience – and their body chemistry – does.

You’ve probably heard that this Monday is “Blue Monday” — the day we’re all meant to feel our lowest 😞

But here’s the thing: Blue Monday isn’t psychology. It’s marketing.

The idea was invented by the travel industry years ago to sell more holidays — a clever bit of advertising that stuck in the public mind.

I needed this reminder today!

There was a time in my life when everything felt like a fast-moving blur. I was caught up in the chaos, striving for more, trying so hard to be "good enough" but all the time missing out on the moments that truly matter—those simple, beautiful pauses that ground us and restore us.

That’s why I love the Swedish word “Fika.” It means slowing down to appreciate and savor the goodness of life’s little moments. This isn’t just a break – it's a reset, a mini-retreat from all the doing.

With so much to do it's tempting to rush on with ticking off the never ending lists but I also know that taking a Fika moment will actually help me be better at whatever I'm doing that day.

Whilst the brain science tells us how important it is for us to take these moments I like to do my own research projects - and I notice that I often get my a-ha moments during Fika or shortly afterwards. I'm always more productive after a Fika moment.

Giving my brain a break from the constant doing means it can focus on finding all those little solutions that just keep me moving forwards.

I've done some things on my list this morning and now I can feel my brain starting to wander off and get distracted. So I'm off for a Fika walk to reset and restore my brain power so that whatever I do this afternoon is done with a brain that is fired up and ready to go!

Preferably shorter in breaths and longer out breaths as this triggers our relaxation responses.

Try counting to 3 for the in-breath and 5 for the out-breath and when that feels comfortable stretch the numbers to 4 for the in-breath and 6 for the out-breath. Every time it gets comfortable just try stretching the numbers a little further.

Try checking in with your breathing as often as you can today and notice how you actually breathe.

How you’re breathing has a huge impact on your physical and mental well-being.

Our Story

I work with people who have been suffering from stress and anxiety and who feel they have lost their way in life. My clients often say to me that they don't know how they got to this place in their life. They know they aren't happy there but they don't know what to do to make things better. I help my clients to get back control of their lives, help them to regain their confidence and realise that the future holds so much more for them.

I chose to retrain as a hypnotherapist after my own anxiety led to physical health problems and a diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. “One of the things that helped me the most in my recovery was understanding how our brains work and why that can have such a huge impact on our wellbeing, both physical and mental and this is something I now share with all my clients”. Using my own experiences and training I specialise in helping people overcome anxiety and chronic conditions such as CFS, Fibromyalgia and IBS.
