I love this feedback from one of my clients!

So many of my clients, when they first come to see me, are feeling so stuck they can't ever imagine being in a better place.

Their feelings of stress, overwhelm or anxiety are so all consuming that it feels impossible to change it.

So when I ask them, in their initial consultation how they would like things to be different they often don't know. The most common answer I get is "I honestly don't know Caroline, I just don't want it to be like this".

The irony is that stressed, anxious overwhelmed part of our brain doesn't have the capacity to see forward in to a different future, it literally doesn't allow us to see that, keeping us stuck in the place that we are.

One of the things I love helping my clients with is encouraging their brains to start to build that picture of their preferred future.

It might be really small things to start with, like getting up on the first alarm, or eating breakfast or it might be bigger things like getting that promotion or changing a career or just feeling content with the life you have.

Once we have that clearer image in our mind our brain can start to look towards finding solutions to how we can make that happen and we find the small decisions that we make as we go through our days start to support this image and change starts to happen quite naturally.

And before we know it we can't ever imagine being back in that other place, the place where we felt stuck 🙂

I know we have a lot of things on our To Do Lists.

Things that “need” to be done.

The chores, that email, that order that needs placing, that meeting, that Drs appointment, that tricky conversation…

But in between the gaps it’s really important that we find those little moments of joy.

They really don’t have to be big. Infact they are often referred to as “glimmers” - a short, passing moment of sparkle in our day ✨

It sounds like a nice added extra, but it’s actually essential to our wellbeing.

These glimmers change our brain chemistry and act as an antidote to stress, anxiety and overwhelm.

I have spent the last 13 years exploring the neuroscience of anxiety (having spent the previous 38 years experiencing it!).

What became obvious straight away was that if I wanted to explore a solution to anxiety I needed to look at the neuroscience of happiness and joy -a much more uplifting and hopeful subject to study 😊

But, as I know from my own personal experience, what sounds simple is not always easy. Finding those glimmers when we are stuck in overwhelm is no easy task.

This is what I love helping my clients with. Starting to change the environment in our mind, pruning away all the extra stress and anxiety so those small glimmers can start to peep through.

And once we start to see the glimmers, we realise that we are surrounded by them ✨

As someone who has lived with ME/CFS for 15 years this new research brings me such hope.

It took 2 years for me to finally get a diagnosis.

😢 2 years of feeling like no one believed me when I said something wasn’t right.

😢 2 years of tests results coming back all clear, which I know should be a good thing but when you are so unwell you just want something to come back that explains why, something that will tell you what to do to get better.

😢 2 years of being left feeling like I must be making this all up.

😢 2 years of feeling like modern medicine was letting me down.

And I know that isn’t just my experience.

Over the last 13 years I have helped many of my clients who said the exact same thing, “the worst part of this is not feeling believed”

I have been following this research project since its conception so it’s amazing to hear these early results.

My hope is that this new understanding will lead to more and more information that helps us to support people struggling right from day one, and may be even be able to prevent this debilitating condition 😊

Chronic fatigue syndrome also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS) is not “just in your head.” A landmark genetic study has uncovered compelling biological evidence that the illness has deep roots in our DNA. Researchers identified eight regions of the human genome that differ significantly between people with and without ME/CFS, with many of these areas tied to immune system function and nervous system signaling.

The DecodeME project, led by the University of Edinburgh alongside patient groups and charities, analyzed genetic data from more than 15,000 ME/CFS patients and over 250,000 healthy controls. The findings suggest certain genetic variants may increase susceptibility by weakening infection-fighting abilities or altering chronic pain pathways. For millions of people living with debilitating fatigue, brain fog, and post-exertional malaise, these results offer long-awaited validation and a new direction for scientific research.

While there’s still no cure or definitive diagnostic test, this is a turning point in how ME/CFS is understood and treated. The results could lay the groundwork for genetic screening, targeted therapies, and deeper studies into why the condition disproportionately affects women and how it differs from illnesses like long Covid. Above all, it’s a powerful step toward ending the stigma and ensuring ME/CFS is recognized as a serious, biologically driven disease. Source: DecodeME Consortium (2025). Infact setting new goals and working towards new dreams is a great way to keep our brain fit and healthy as we age!

As we fire up our brain with new ideas and plans, and take actions to work towards something our brain is flooded with a cocktail of beneficial chemicals like serotonin and dopamine which are all hugely beneficial to the long term health of our brain!

One of my favourite things about working with clients is helping them rediscover their sparkly bits — the passions, joys and little things that light them up, but often get pushed to the bottom of the list when life gets busy.

I love witnessing that lightbulb moment when they realise…

Our Story

I work with people who have been suffering from stress and anxiety and who feel they have lost their way in life. My clients often say to me that they don't know how they got to this place in their life. They know they aren't happy there but they don't know what to do to make things better. I chose to retrain as a hypnotherapist after my own anxiety led to physical health problems and a diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. “One of the things that helped me the most in my recovery was understanding how our brains work and why that can have such a huge impact on our wellbeing, both physical and mental and this is something I now share with all my clients”. Using my own experiences and training I specialise in helping people overcome anxiety and chronic conditions such as CFS, Fibromyalgia and IBS.
