Meet Sarah, one of our Clinical Nurse Tutors who's recently completed a Learning and Skills Teacher Level 5 Apprenticeship alongside working as one of our clinical leads.

We did a quick Q&A to share her thoughts on apprenticeships - a timely reminder during exam results season that there are career development opportunities in care.

🎓 What did you learn on your apprenticeship?
I completed a Learning and Skills Teacher Level 5 Apprenticeship with Cera from June 2024 - June 2025.
I refreshed my knowledge of the essential skills of being a teacher, and learnt new skills and valuable insight into my role and its development - including the use of case studies, theories, observation of my practice and feedback.

❓ How has it helped you in your role?
It has helped me to gain confidence in my development and delivery of clinical training for Cera Care staff , including virtual teaching and using technology. My new knowledge has helped me improve assessment methods and inclusive delivery styles.

❔ What are the benefits of doing an apprenticeship?
This apprenticeship provides me with a strong foundation of educational knowledge. I completed this qualification with support from my manager and training coach. I was able to complete the study within my work hours and this was flexible to my needs.

🤔 Would you recommend it to others?
Yes I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship to others. No matter your situation, age, or ability, ( I'm old and have dyslexia)! I was supported and able to work at my own pace. Enrolment was simple and I worked on small bite-sized tasks each week to complete my award in 12 months.

🧠 What are the most important skills you've gained from studying for the apprenticeship?
I have learnt to embrace feedback and use it in a positive and productive way to improve my role.

🚀 What's next for you in your career?
I hope to continue studying - after a short rest over the summer. I plan to start a new apprenticeship soon!

✍️ Left-handed people make up less than 13% of the global population - that's why Left-Handers Day is on the 13th!

Lefties face a few unique challenges - scissors and can openers for a start! ? We see you! 🤜🤛

Left-handedness means you are more likely to be neurodiverse, but also more likely to be musical 🎵, think visually 👀 and see the bigger picture 🖼️ as left-handed brains work in a more balanced way. 🧠👈️

Some lovely to share. Our colleagues are making a difference every single day with compassionate care...Here’s just a few highlights!

1. North East Branch received an urgent phone call from a daughter trying to arrange for a care provider to accompany her father to her wedding...in two days time. The team sprang into action to complete a care plan and pulled together to get the cover in place for the big day. Carer Alisha had the honour of accompanying proud father-of-the-bride David, who managed to walk his daughter down the aisle on her big day 👰💒Thanks to everyone who helped this family make special memories.
2. Our Kingston, Walton and Sutton branches came together for a well-deserved day out and took a trip along the Thames! Great to see our teams relaxing, and having fun outside work. ⛴️
3. Congratulations to carer Dexter who's completed 🔟 years service on the Wirral!
4. Well done to Cera Star🌟 Rebecca from our Brighton Branch - for hard work and dedication to her clients! 🏆️
5. Well done to Cera Star 🌟Rachael one of our Clinical Lead Nurses from our Birkenhead branch - for going above and beyond to ensure her team are skilled to deliver high level complex care to one of our clients.
6. Client Maggie reported back on her trip out with carer Marilyn ✍️ "I had a wonderful time it’s taken me nearly all week to recover but I couldn’t be happier. I would also like to say that when you have good care and support from all the staff it gives me security and it also gives my children security that their mum is being cared for so they can go and live their life knowing I’m alright and safe and being cared for so thank you for all your help and support."
7. A huge congratulations to Jessica, Newcastle Carer of the Month - for compassion, dedication and proactive care, ensuring her clients are always safe and supported. Well done Jessica! 👏
8. A very special thank you from a client to the team who support him in Rochdale. In his own words 'You are all like family'. 💜
9. Client Colin from Harvest Court on the Wirral enjoyed baking a cake with his carer Funanya! 🍰
10. Saxon Court held a Peaky Blinders Roaring '20s afternoon with a quiz, games and karaoke! 🎤

🚲 is a great reminder that every journey counts – for our health, our communities, and our planet.

At Cera, we’re not just reducing hospital admissions – we’re also cutting emissions across the way we work and deliver care.

We encourage all staff to think about how they travel. That includes:
🚴‍♀️ Creating greener transport options through our Cycle to Work and discounted eBike schemes.

📍 Smarter rota, route and fleet planning – reducing unnecessary travel and minimising emissions.

💻 Encouraging agile and remote working, and keeping meetings online.

🧠 Scaling training through AI Avatars and e-learning to lower travel and paper usage.

We’ve also planted over 360 trees through our partnership with Eforests – celebrating patient milestones and recognising employees for long service, while offsetting 9 tonnes of carbon in less than 2 years.

💚 We're working hard to reduce and offset carbon emissions by contributing to a more sustainable future for healthcare in every sense.

This National Wellness Month we're giving a nod to our Cera Women network and the menopause support it provides.💜

We're proud to employ a workforce that is 80% female, and as part of our commitment to being a menopause-and-menstruation-friendly employer, our network provides resources and regular opportunities for women and allies to connect and learn about the peri-menopause and menopause.
