💡Myth-Busting Monday!💡

❌ Myth: “Put butter or cream on a burn to soothe it.”
✅ Truth: Butter, oils, and creams can trap heat and cause more damage. The best treatment is cool running water for 20 minutes, then cover loosely with cling film.

🚨Scenario Sunday!🚨

🩺 Scenario: You’re out at dinner with friends. Suddenly, your friend starts struggling to breathe, grabbing their throat, and can’t speak. The restaurant goes silent as panic sets in. What would you do?

🚑 Step-by-Step Response:
1️⃣ Ask if They are Choking – If they can talk, tell them to cough, and keep them trying to clear the blockage.
2️⃣ Back Blows – If they can’t breathe or speak, deliver up to 5 firm back blows between their shoulder blades.
3️⃣ Abdominal Thrusts – If back blows don’t work, stand behind them, make a fist above their belly button, and pull sharply inward and upward (up to 5 times).
4️⃣ Alternate – Continue 5 back blows, 5 thrusts until the object comes out or they become unresponsive.
5️⃣ Call 999 – If they lose consciousness, call for help immediately and begin CPR if necessary.

Family First Aid: Be Prepared and Stay Safe

Accidents happen especially with little ones running around! Having a basic first aid kit at home and knowing how to use it can make all the difference in an emergency.

Here are a few family-first essentials:
• Plasters & bandages – For those everyday scrapes and cuts.
• Antiseptic wipes or saline – To clean cuts and grazes.
• Digital thermometer – Fever? Check quickly and accurately.
• Tweezers – Great for removing splinters or thorns.
• Icepacks or cold compress - for those bumps and bruises.
• Emergency contact list – Stick it somewhere visible!

Top Tip: Teach older kids basic first aid too – it builds confidence and could help them keep calm in an emergency.

Your family’s safety starts with being prepared. When you know what to do, you can act fast and keep everyone calm.

In a time when women weren’t allowed to practice medicine Agnodice dared to defy the rules.

Disguised as a man, she studied medicine in Alexandria and returned to Athens to treat women who were too ashamed or too afraid to seek help from male doctors. Her success sparked suspicion, and when her true identity was revealed, she was put on trial. But the women she had healed rallied in her defence and won.

Agnodice’s bravery didn’t just save lives—it helped change laws and pave the way for women in medicine.

Her legacy reminds us how courage and compassion can break barriers, even in the most unlikely times.
