Firstly, well played Scotland, that was a passionate and well-deserved performance 🥅 🏴 ⚽️ The problem with English football is sadly institutional. The Football Association hiring “yes” men who are quite tactically inept HAS been operating for a long time. May I mention Brian Clough here, the greatest English manger England never had… Clough was an Enneatype 8, like Alex Ferguson. They breathe fire and get things done, think Putin, even dare I say it, no I won’t, but think of tyrants…
Being a phobic Enneatype 6w5 I know my strengths and I know my weaknesses. Gareth Southgate is the same personality, and it’s just not the leadership material needed for England, but perfect for the FA. There are exceptions to this rule of course, Claudio Ranieri being one, his jovial lighthearted nature capturing the nation and the world when his Leicester side won the league at 5,000-1 odds. But the counterphobic Enneatype 6w5 of Sam Allardyce would have faired much better, but Big Sam was caught with his hand in the till and it ended after 1 game. Eddie Howe, possibly an 8, and Nigel Pearson a definite 8 would be more of a dominant force. But who’d want the job? There’s so few games in a year. Roy Hodgson an Enneatype 5w6 was clearly out his depth at times, just like when he took the Liverpool job, and it’s sad as he’s obviously a great manager who speaks something like 5 languages fluently and has managed internationally. But we crashed out to Iceland in the second round of the Euros in 2016 with Harry Kane taking corners and Jack Wilshere thrown in, who’d been in and out of the treatment room most of the season.
So I’m sorry to say football is most definitely not coming home on that dismal performance. The talent, the time, the multi-millions put into English football, and what is exhibited is that dreadfully conservative and lacklustre display is frankly embarrassing. It’s simply way too fearful. It’s sad… We’re meant to be second favourites for winning this tournament, but how many years is it before we learn from countries that are successful at this..? We have no team plan. Or do we? Conservatively conservative.
So what’s the answer..? Well for me it’s Eddie Howe, but personally as my Welsh neighbour said, you’re watching the sport with the wrong shaped ball… Perhaps he’s right! 🏉
England and Scotland play out a goalless draw at Wembley to leave both countries with their hopes of reaching Euro 2020's knockout stage very much alive.
