💚 Cervical Cancer Prevention Week 💚

We know cervical screening isn’t always easy—and that’s okay. What matters is that it saves lives. In fact, cervical screening is estimated to save around 5,000 lives every year in the UK.

You always have the right to ask for what helps you feel more comfortable at your appointment. That might be:

🎵 playing music
👭 bringing a friend or support person
🧍‍♀️ changing position
⏸️ asking to pause or stop at any time

When it comes to cervical screening, you’re in control. And when something saves lives, do whatever helps you get through it.

If you’re due for your cervical screening or have questions, please contact the practice—we’re here to support you.

🍃 Dry January – Could You Go Alcohol-Free This Month? 🍃

Alcohol is part of many people’s lives — used to celebrate, unwind, socialise or cope with stress. Because it’s legal and socially accepted, it’s easy for drinking to become a habit rather than a conscious choice.

However, alcohol can affect both physical and mental health. In the UK, alcohol is linked to liver disease, several types of cancer, mental health difficulties, and wider impacts on families and communities.

Dry January, led by Alcohol Change UK, is a chance to pause and reflect on your relationship with alcohol — without judgement or pressure. Many people notice benefits such as:

✔ Better sleep
✔ Improved mood and energy
✔ Saving money
✔ Feeling more in control of their drinking

You don’t have to have a “problem” to take part — it’s simply about giving your body and mind a break.

If you’d like support or advice around alcohol and health, please feel free to speak to a member of our team. Help is always available.

💙 Your health, your choice.

For more information, visit Alcohol Change UK.

💚 Love Your Liver Month 💚

Your liver is a fascinating and hardworking organ — an amazing multi-tasker with over 500 vital jobs that keep you alive. It’s just as important as your heart and lungs, yet it often doesn’t get the attention it deserves.

In the UK, liver disease is on the rise. The three major preventable causes are:

• Drinking alcohol
• Obesity
• Viral hepatitis

The liver can repair itself — but only up to a point. Sadly, liver disease often has no symptoms until it’s advanced, when treatment options are limited.

That’s why knowing the risk factors and taking steps early is so important.

Love your liver today by making small, healthy choices that can protect it for life.

For more information, please follow the link below.

Thank you

We want the nation to show their liver some love in January and take their first steps …

Small Choices, Big Difference: ‘Think Which Service’ Returns for Winter

As winter approaches, health and care partners across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin are once again joining forces to help residents stay well and use NHS services wisely.

The ‘Think Which Service’ campaign encourages everyone to take simple steps to protect their health, make informed choices about where to seek help, and play their part in easing winter pressures. It forms part of the wider ‘Think’ initiative, which also includes ‘Think Vaccination’.

How everyone can help:

· Get vaccinated – protect yourself and others against flu and COVID-19.

· Practise self-care – keep warm, eat well, stay active, and keep basic medicines at home.

· Choose the right service – self-care, pharmacy, NHS 111, Minor Injury Units, or GP for non-emergencies; A&E or 999 only for life-threatening emergencies.

· Check in on others – particularly older or vulnerable neighbours, friends, or family.

Small choices can make a big difference, helping our communities stay well and supporting the NHS to care for those who need it most. To find out more, visit: https://www.shropshiretelfordandwrekin.nhs.uk/your-health/our-campaigns/think-which-service/

Or watch Dr Jess Harvey, GP talk about the campaign in the launch video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=569LGukEL3Q

The NHS is here to support you, with local health and care professionals ready to provide the right help at the right time and place. Knowing which service to use means you’ll get the care you need faster, while helping to keep emergency services free for those who need them most. Think which serv...

📢 October is National Cholesterol Month

This month, we’re raising awareness about the importance of managing your cholesterol levels to protect your heart health.

High cholesterol often has no symptoms, but it can significantly increase your risk of heart disease, stroke, and other serious health conditions. The good news? It’s manageable with the right lifestyle changes and, when necessary, medication.

During National Cholesterol Month, we encourage all our patients to:

✅ Book a cholesterol check if you haven’t had one recently
✅ Maintain a balanced, heart-healthy diet
✅ Stay physically active
✅ Avoid smoking and limit alcohol intake

Your health is our priority. If you have concerns about your cholesterol or cardiovascular risk, please don’t hesitate to contact the practice for advice or an appointment.

For more information, please follow the link below.
