Most of the people we work with walk in on Day 1 feeling nervous.
Worried they'll be the most unfit.
Worried they'll hold the group back.
Worried they’ll make a show of themselves.
But here’s what actually happens:

They show up.
They get through the first session — even if it’s tough.
They realise nobody's judging them, and that the people around them get it.
And then something small shifts.
They leave with their head held higher than when they came in.

Ironman Leeds 2025.
My first full-distance triathlon:
🏊‍♂️ 3.8km swim – 1hr 17
🚴 180km bike (2,500m climb) – 7hr 13
🏃‍♂️ 42.2km run – 5hr
Total: 13hr 40min

Two years ago I couldn’t swim 50m without stopping.
Didn’t own a road bike.
Ran the odd time.
Now here we are.

Triathlon’s given me direction, structure, and something to constantly work at — even when things haven’t been smooth.

Swim felt solid — my most consistent discipline.
Bike was savage. Lap 3, mile 99, legs were wrecked — but I kept turning them over.
The run was the unknown. Had to take nearly 4 weeks off beforehand with an ankle injury. My legs weren’t exactly springy, but I was buzzing just to be moving forward.

“These are the good old days.”
That thought sat with me all day. Don’t just wish the race away to get to the end — be in it. Life’s not always comfortable. Learn to enjoy both.

Progress doesn’t always feel like progress.
In the thick of it — when training is patchy, life’s busy, injuries hit — it’s easy to feel stuck.
But zoom out… even with 70–80% consistency, the difference over a year or two is unreal.
You don’t need to be perfect. Just don’t give up.

"If this was just a weight loss club, half these people would’ve quit by now."

But it’s not.

We’ve had members go through holidays, injuries, night shifts, kids up at all hours, mental health dips, and weeks where the scale barely budged.

And they still show up.

Why?

Because this is a community — not a short-term fix.

They’re not just chasing a number on the scale.
They’re learning how to move better.
Eat better.
Think better.
And they’re doing it alongside other people who are in the trenches too — people who’ve been through it, who get it, and who lift each other up.

And when the results do slow down?
They don’t throw in the towel.
They ask questions. They stay accountable.
Because they’ve got support — and coaches who cuts through the faff, reminds them of the bigger picture, and helps them see progress in more ways than just the scales.

I bet you won’t hear another PT say this first line…
But in a world obsessed with burning calories and tracking everything on a screen — this is the bit no one talks about.
Exercise isn’t just about fat loss.
It’s about staying strong, mobile, and healthy enough to actually live your life — to run about with your kids, lift your grandkids, and still feel good doing it.

No dumbbells, no burpees — just paintbrushes, good craic, and even better company. 🎨

We recently swapped the gym for canvases and got stuck into some creative chaos with our amazing member Tessa McMurray leading the way Art Academy N.I

Tea, coffee, a few nibbles (and yes, maybe the odd cheeky glass of wine) — but the real highlight was the laughter, the chats, and the reminder that Hybrid is more than just a gym.

It’s a community.
A place to belong.
A place to grow — inside and outside the gym walls.

But sometimes “anything” looks like:
– Going for a walk when you’d rather sit
– Choosing the better meal when it’s not the easier one
– Showing up to the gym, even if it’s uncomfortable
