Police Scotland Ayrshire officers in Kilmarnock are working with partners as part of "Safe Killie" initiative - supporting those coming into Kilmarnock town centre at this busy time of year to shop, eat and visit licenced premises.
Safe Killie is a partnership with East Ayrshire Council, and E.R Medical Events & Training Ltd who will be working along with street pastors, retailers, and licensed premises to ensure the wellbeing of those enjoying the town centre. The initiative will launch on Friday 31st October with all partners involved.
Officers will continue targeted patrols in and around Kilmarnock bus station and the surrounding areas - to prevent and detect any anti-social behaviour, engage with the public and prevent any criminality.
Chief Inspector Stuart Dougan said: "Together with East Ayrshire Council and other partners, we are working to keep everyone safe and ensure those who are coming into Kilmarnock town centre can enjoy this experience.
Our officers will be continuing their patrols to provide reassurance to the public and will also be on hand to deal with any incidents of alcohol-related violence or anti-social behaviour, helping to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.”
Councillor Jim McMahon, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Housing, Transport and Communities shared this sentiment. He said: “There have been a number of incidents recently which have given us cause for concern, so we really welcome the Safe Killie initiative.
This will provide some much-needed reassurance for all our communities – businesses, shoppers, residents and visitors alike - as our town centre gets busier in the run up to Christmas.
The Council is pleased to be part of the Safe Killie initiative, and we pledge our continued support for all the partner agencies working to make this a success.”
