International Day of Charity

Today is a reminder that small acts of service can make a big difference.

Each week, I volunteer a few hours with Pain Concern, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of people living with persistent pain—and those who support them.

They aim to provide accessible, evidence-based information and support to help people manage pain more effectively, and those that care for them.

Their policy department advocates for improvements in pain management provision and that they are part of the Scottish governments chronic pain steering group

As part of my role, I help grow their presence in local communities and support free pain education sessions—open to anyone who could benefit.

Here’s how you can help or get involved:
• If you run a group or community space that might benefit from a free session, please get in touch. Some are online, others in person.
• We’re also looking for venues to host pop-up information stands—either as one-offs or on a regular basis.

Pain can be isolating, but support and education can make a real difference. Let’s make that support easier to find👌🏼.

Do you know someone who is studying complimentary therapies or sports massage?

If you do ask them to get in touch…..

I’m offering my space for any therapist to use free of charge while they begin their studies this year.

It can be daunting being asked to build up hours and go out and practice early on in your studies and some people lack confidence or just don’t have anywhere to facilitate clients.

Any local student can get in touch and we can work together to find time that works around their calendar for them to build up hours and confidence in a professional, safe environment (I’m also happy to be on hand if they prefer).

There’s big things brewing in the background to find other spaces across Ayrshire that students will be able to use, and to make all therapies financially accessible to all - watch this space 😉.

🏋️‍♂️ Functional Fitness – Because Life is the Ultimate Workout!

You might not be training for the Olympics, but everyday life is a sport in itself! Whether you’re lifting shopping bags, chasing kids, climbing stairs, or dodging rogue Lego bricks, your body needs to move well to live well.

💪 What is Functional Fitness?
It’s exercise that mimics real-life movements, helping you build strength, balance, and flexibility for the things you do every day.

Last night after work I took a drive to Saltcoats to visit Arctic Wolves all minds matter for an ice bath.

I met the guys at the HPX fitness race and they were so passionate about what they did and the benefits they had felt from cold water immersion.

I went into my own wee zone and spent 6.5 minutes in the ice water and warmed back up in their sauna.

And I enjoyed it so much I’m back again for more later this week!

They do sessions throughout the week in the evenings and Saturday mornings. I’d highly recommend them!

I recently received some lovely feedback from a client who had massage therapy throughout her pregnancy.

Pregnancy places unique demands on the body, and massage can play a valuable role in managing musculoskeletal discomfort, reducing swelling, and promoting relaxation.

A Little About Me

I thought I’d take a moment to introduce myself to any new followers and share a bit about how I ended up doing what I love.

Retraining in pain management started out as a hobby—something to explore alongside my day job. But it quickly turned into a full-time passion, and I genuinely couldn’t be more grateful.

Before this chapter, I ran insolvency firms for many years, then moved to South Africa to raise my two brilliant kids (now 20 and 23).

We returned to the UK seven years ago, and I went on to manage a money advice and financial wellbeing service in local government. It was meaningful work—but something kept nudging me towards something else.

I began retraining in sports massage, and before I knew it, I’d fallen down the rabbit hole of pain science, behaviour change, and integrative care. I was working 60 hour weeks between two jobs, soaking up everything I could. Now, I’m back at university (yes, while still working) studying for a degree in Integrative Healthcare—to bring even more depth and structure to what I do.

About 18 months ago, I took the leap into self-employment—and I haven’t looked back. I’m passionate about making healthcare support accessible to everyone—financially, physically, and emotionally—because everyone deserves the chance to feel better and be heard.

I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to learning, but I’m also laid-back, non-judgmental, and always up for a laugh. I try to create a calm, welcoming space where people feel safe, supported, and maybe even a little lighter when they leave.

And yes—I will literally put a massage bed up anywhere. It’s been to the base of Kilimanjaro, across African deserts, on the ridge of a Portuguese volcano, up mountains in Slovenia and popped up at sporting events all over the UK. If there’s a need, I’ll be there (with my trusty bed in tow!).

Stretching isn’t the most exciting part of your day. But neither is walking like a penguin because your muscles are too tight!

Here’s why stretching needs to be part of your routine:
