Boxing at Banks Fit 🥊

One of the most fun ways to train… and one of the most effective.

Full body workout
Burns serious calories
Great for toning arms & shoulders
And a proper stress reliever too 😅

But the best part?

You’re not thrown into a scary gym environment.

We keep our sessions small (max 10 people), so you’re coached properly, go at your own pace, and actually enjoy it.

Most of our members are 40+ and just want to feel fitter, stronger, and more confident again—without the intimidation.

📍 Prestwick & Strathaven

If you’ve been thinking about getting started…

Come try it for yourself.

We’ll give you 2 complimentary sessions to see if it’s for you.

Just drop us a message and we’ll get you booked in 👍

Most over 40s get weaker each passing year...

If you’re relying on random workouts or avoiding weights altogether, you’ll weaken each passing year and that quietly erodes quality of life

Why?

Stiffness
Injury risk
Aches
Etc

Here’s what proper strength training actually does for you:

1. Builds real, usable strength
So everyday things feel easier — lifting, carrying, moving without aches or hesitation.

2. Protects your body long-term
Stronger muscles = better joint support, fewer injuries, and staying independent as you age.

This isn’t about smashing yourself in the gym.

It’s about smart, structured training that works with your body — not against it.

If you want to feel strong again (or for the first time in years), this is your sign.

Message me if you want to come along for 2 complimentary small group personal training sessions in Prestwick or Strathaven.

Huge shoutout to Rhona in Prestwick 🙌

Who recently completed a Half Marathon in Paisley 🏃‍♀️

It wasn't that long ago a 5km park run was a solid achievement for Rhona.

She’s been putting in the work at Prestwick Small Group PT 3x per week 💪

Where we work on mobility, core, strength & cardio with our varied sessions (to keep things fun)

Her consistency has really paid off 😇

From not being a runner

From not being comfortable doing resistance training

To now running a half marathon and feeling fittest she ever has.

If you’re over 40 and want to improve your fitness, strength and mobility

Without going to a gym where your just a number

Or surrounded by young folk who are super fit or leave you like a fish out of water.

You can come along for 2 complimentary sessions at Prestwick or Strathaven.

Just drop me a message 👍

Core strength isn’t just about abs—it’s about moving better, staying pain free, and building a body that actually performs.

This block at Banks Fit in Strathaven is all about:
– stronger core
– better mobility
– more control through every movement

No endless crunches. Just smart training that carries over into real life.

If you’re 40+ and want to feel stronger, move easier, and build a body that holds up—this is where you start.

2 trial sessions available.

Heather’s heading off on mat leave and our Banks Fit family is both over the moon and a little bit heartbroken.

We’ll miss her smile and the energy she brings to every session.

But we couldn’t be more excited for baby Rielly!

Will it be a boy or a girl?

How much will they weigh?

We've had a go at guessing as you can see 😅

Winner gets no burpees 1 year (I kid)

Getting stronger 40+ is so important.

Here’s why.

Once you’re past 40, the game changes. You’re not training for ego or aesthetics only anymore.

You’re training for longevity, independence and quality of life.

Here are 3 big benefits of building strength:

1. Strength protects your joints from “niggles” becoming injuries

Achy knees. Sore shoulders. Tight lower back.

After 30, muscle mass naturally declines (sarcopenia). That means less support around your joints.

Getting stronger improves joint stability, reduces everyday aches, and makes you more resilient to strains and tweaks.

Strength training isn’t “wear and tear”. Done properly, it’s armour for your body.

2. Strength keeps your metabolism working for you

Most people blame age for weight gain.

Reality? It’s muscle loss and inactivity.

More muscle means a higher resting metabolism.

That means easier fat control, better blood sugar regulation, and less risk of type 2 diabetes.

After 40, strength training isn’t optional if you want to stay lean. It’s essential.

3. Strength preserves independence as you age

Carrying shopping.
Getting off the floor.
Playing with your kids or grandkids.
Not fearing stairs.

Loss of strength is one of the biggest predictors of losing independence later in life.

The stronger you are now, the more capable you’ll be in your 50s, 60s and 70s.

Getting stronger 40+ isn’t about lifting super heavy or doing high-impact things.

It’s about protecting your body, protecting your health, and protecting your future.

Train for the life you want at 60+, not just the mirror.

And the mirror will look after itself 😆

Strathaven Squad working

Mobility
Strength
Core

Why?

Because a stronger and more mobile body is what we all want in our

40s,50s, 60s,70s,80s and beyond right?

Life expectancy is up

But health in older age isn't

Why?

We move less than our ancestors

We lift less than our ancestors

Fix that and move 🫡

The messages we receive around food at a young age

Have more impact on our eating behaviours

Than any diet or nutrition tip will.

Story time

Hopefully helps illustrate.

Growing up the message I got was very much

You're a good eater
You always clean your plate
Growing boy you'll have seconds

And the reward was often oddly... more food

Tastier food desserts, ice cream, cake, sweets etc

It's understandable

My parents grew up in households where food wasn't plentiful

So they showed love by providing me with lots...

Fortunately I was super active.

My dad especially told me about how my grandpa loved the bookies in his day.

So often he gave in enough of his wages to my grandma

To just get by

And gambled the rest 🥲.

This meant my dad, the poor soul found himself sometimes stealing bread the neighbours put out for the birds.

Generational trauma I know.

But that meant there was a focus on plenty of food growing up for me (I'm very thankful)

But the cons are I feel myself with my kids now...

Getting annoyed at waste

Or picking at their leftovers.

I've had to kinda try to recalibrate the message too

Kids eat enough to fill themselves

It isn't wasted food because we've got what we need from it

Me picking is wasting my health because the extra calories = fat gain = poorer health markers (over time)

Ofcourse still try minimise waste

But hopefully this ignites some thoughts about your attitude towards food

Where it came from

And how you can maybe try tweak that little voice/message to improve things

Sometimes it isn't "just track your calories"

Or "eat less rubbish"

That's needed sometimes we need to peel the onion

But yeah track your calories 👀🤣

Godspeed hope this was helpful

Welcome coach Lisa to prestwick Squad

"Lisa is lovely and it was a brilliant class this morning 👏 Great warm up, good exercises in pairs that I could really feel working and testing me and a thorough cool down.

Was nervous about Heather going on mat leave but happy after this morning's class that she'll leave us in good hands 🙌"

Lisa will be heading up morning sessions

She brings energy, enthusiasm and smiles

Working out from home?

For upper body and some core a pull up station is 👑

Pull ups, dips, inverted rows, leg raises are great place to move to

Once you've got good at push ups, dumbbell rows and dumbbell work imo

The "pull up mate" is piece of kit I went for and it's taken a brutal amount of since covid lockdown and still solid 💪🏻
