Today is Elmer Day!

Elmer the patchwork elephant looks different to his elephant friends. His story teaches us to embrace our differences and our individuality - our differences are what make us who we are.

This week (11th- 17th May) is Mental Health Awareness Week.

Communication skills are so important in looking after our mental health, particularly being able to talk about how we feel. This is something that can be quite challenging for children with communication difficulties to do.

There are lots of organisations out there with a focus on children’s mental health.

Our top tip for May is… blow bubbles!

Blowing bubbles is a fun and easy way to help your child develop early communication skills. It gives lots of chances to pause, wait, and use simple words together.

Try blowing a few bubbles, then stop and wait to see how your child lets you know they want more. You can model helpful words like “more!”, “bubbles!” or “pop!”, and repeat or add to whatever your child says. Even simple sounds or actions are great starting points.

Most of all—have fun!
