Our tennis players have done us proud this week at Wimbledon. It looks like we may get a couple through to the final week and not an elbow strapping in sight!

The common extensor muscles help control the position and movement of the wrist and fingers during powerful and dextrous movements of the hand. If you suffer with this condition, you can vividly imagine, with the help of the diagram, the pain caused by constant or repetitive re-injuring of that tear within the extensor tendon during day to day use of the hand.

A tennis elbow strap can help by acting as a partial separate attachment for the muscle at it's point of compression. This can offload the scar within the tendon and allow healing to begin.

I have now been working safely in the Clinic since June 1st. On July 1st, Laurette Steenkamp(Senior Physiotherapist) returned to work as did Jodie Trueman the Reception Office Manager. Hopefully Bas (Senior Physio) will return to us in August. Our booking procedure has changed slightly now, in that we carry out a rigorous screening process via email prior to any potential face to face appointment. This is done to determine whether a face to face or remote consultation is appropriate in the current environment, in order to minimize risk to extremely vulnerable/vulnerable patient groups and indeed ourselves. In most cases to date it has been possible to carry out face to face sessions, but please be aware this is determined on the basis of each particular individual's life circumstances.

We are operating the clinic with no patient crossover. Jodie sits behind a perspex screen in reception and controls through flow of people entering and leaving reception so that no crossover occurs. In the treatment rooms, social distancing is maintained when not examining or treating, time in clinic is reduced by pre filling any paperwork and submitting preconsult assessment forms via email(where possible), aprons, masks, face screen and gloves are worn by the Physiotherapist, and face mask must be worn by the patient. All surfaces are wipeable, full clean down of all touched surfaces after each patient visit, sanitising gel everywhere! No waiting room, patients allowed in the Clinic only at their allotted time of appointment and taken directly into the treatment room after having their temperature taken. Payment is contactless(where possible) and patient records are now being computerised. Everything takes that little bit longer now, but we are getting there!

If you're currently working from home, you may well be finding by now that your back, neck, shoulders and wrists are giving you some serious gip. If so have a look at this webinar that I participated in last week. It covers everything, and a bit more that I'll be including in future!!, that I would be encouraging you to do if you were able to pop and see me in the Clinic. Hopefully we will be back in the not too distant future. Enjoy, keep safe and healthy, there is light at the end of this long dark tunnel.

If you’ve been working from home for a while now, it’s important to make sure you keep up good postures and healthy habits to avoid feeling uncomfortable and...

Things have moved on very quickly since our last statement only 4 days ago on how Active Life Physiotherapy Centre was addressing the Covid-19 challenges. Like many businesses in West Norfolk we have now, hopefully temporarily, shut up shop. After 28 years and 1 month of unbroken availability to the community for Musculo-skeletal assessment advice and treatment, this has come as somewhat of a shock to the system. In order to continue supporting patients who are in the middle of courses of treatment with me, I have been carrying out phone/email/video phone consultations to give advice and progress treatment programmes. This seems to be working quite well, so I would like to open this up to anybody in the West Norfolk region with recent onset or recently further aggravated Musculo-Skeletal symptoms for which there may be difficulties getting any sort of Professional help. I am very happy to give advice free of charge, but may require brief video phone assessment or possibly photo’s of the area in order to be confident of an accurate clinical picture. All I ask in return, is if you are happy with this service, that you recommend Active Life Physiotherapy Centre to your friends and family, like our page, and return to Active Life(if necessary) once our lives become active once again, and things have returned to normality.

Our team at Active Life Physiotherapy are working around the clock to ensure that we continue to provide our usual high quality, safe and professional Physiotherapy service whilst dealing with the challenges posed by Covid-19 (Coronavirus).
Our patient’s health and safety is our utmost concern and we are taking all necessary steps to ensure our Centre is sanitised, contact minimized between all persons within the Physiotherapy Centre, patients screened (on booking and arrival) for any sign of symptoms, possible exposure to infected persons or travel from any high risk regions of the world. Chairs are kept 1m apart in the waiting area, patients are requested to arrive on time for appointments but no more than 5 mins early, patients are asked to attend unaccompanied whenever possible (except under 16’s), and hand gels are readily available throughout the Centre along with 2 wash basins for hand washing if preferred. Instructions on reducing risk of infection transmission whilst attending the clinic, and further details on precise sanitisation methods/protocols carried out at Active Life are provided immediately you walk in our door.

We are very aware of the higher risk to over 70’s and the published high risk underlying conditions groups. We believe that it is our duty of care not to put either of these groups at an increased risk, and it is impossible to guarantee that a Physiotherapy Centre worker will not pick up the virus at some point despite the fastidious care we are taking with disinfecting and maintaining excellent hygiene habits. It is therefore with regret that we are bringing in a temporary policy of not allowing over 70’s patients to attend from 23/03/2020 until further notice. Patients under 70 with high risk underlying conditions must seriously consider the potential risks to their wellbeing, but the degree of risk for each of these underlying conditions varies so much that for this group we are leaving the choice of whether you attend to your own discretion.

In order to continue offering support to currently attending (but now barred) patients over 70 any other isolating over 70’s, and actually any other isolating people at all with musculo-skeletal painful disorders/injuries, we are offering a free advice service, with emailed video exercises if necessary, email/phone follow up, and progression of exercises service, via email/phone initially. (If skype/facetime video consultation is required, and agreed to, a reduced fee may be charged.)

Any persons not isolating are welcome to book in for Physiotherapy Assessment and/or treatment as we are going to try and continue to offer our usual high quality, safe & Professional Physiotherapy service for as long as we are able.
