This is so common and sadly very often goes untreated. Ever hear your vet or therapist talk about 'compensation issues' or 'effects of compensation' on your dog?
They are referring to the dog experiencing discomfort and thus shifting and redistributing their weight on to another structure such as from the left to right limb or front limbs to hindlimbs or more commonly and sometimes less obviously, limbs through the spine and back.
People compensate for injury and so do animals, its a survival instinct but long term compensation can create other dysfunction as structures that are not designed to move in a certain way ending up doing so to 'help out' another joint or structure which has been compromised.
