Can you think of times when you’ve said things like, β€œPart of me isn’t sure about this…” or β€œA part of me wants to do it, but another part is holding back…”?
It might sound strange, but it actually makes more sense than you think.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) sees our minds as being made up of different parts, all with their own thoughts, feelings, and roles. These parts develop to help us cope and stay safe β€” even if their ways of doing that don’t always feel helpful now.

Some parts try to keep everything under control and prevent things going wrong (Managers).
Some jump in quickly when things feel overwhelming, helping you to distract or switch off (Firefighters).
Some carry deeper feelings from the past, like hurt, fear, or sadness (Exiles).

At the centre of it all is Self β€” the calm, steady, and compassionate part of you that can understand and support all the others.
