🤓 From Theory to Practice 🤓
Our recent MSc Physiotherapy student definitely got put through their paces on the reformer this week, and it was a great example of what real learning looks like in practice.
Working on the reformer isn’t just about doing exercises; it’s about understanding movement on a much deeper level. The reformer challenges control, alignment, strength, and coordination all at once. For a physio student, that means constantly thinking: What muscle is driving this? What’s compensating? How can I cue this better? How would this translate to a patient?
During the session, they experienced firsthand how small adjustments can completely change the difficulty of a movement, a slight shift in foot position, a change in spring resistance, or a different tempo can turn a “simple” exercise into a real test of neuromuscular control. That kind of insight is invaluable when it comes to prescribing and progressing rehab.
It also gives them the patient perspective. Feeling the burn, the instability, the challenge, it builds empathy. They understand what it’s like when something looks easy but feels anything but. That experience helps shape better communication, better coaching, and ultimately better outcomes for patients.
Being “put through their paces” means they weren’t just observing, they were actively problem-solving, adapting, and refining their clinical reasoning in real time. It’s where theory meets practice, and where confidence starts to grow.
A great session, and a great step forward in their journey to becoming a well-rounded physio. 💪
