🔥 Over half of all house fires in the country are caused by electricity - and as today marks the start of Electrical Fire Safety Week, we have some top tips to keep your home and your loved ones safe:

🔌 Don't overload plug sockets - if you need to use an adaptor, please choose a board rather than a block (and always plug large appliances straight into the wall)

👀 Regularly check frayed or worn cables and wires

📺 Switch off all appliances at the socket when not in use

✅ Buy your electrical chargers from a reputable source

The QEH has become the top recruiting site in England for a national hip fracture research study, with more than 150 patients taking part so far.

This important research is helping to improve recovery and quality of life for older people admitted to hospital with hip fractures - one of the most serious injuries affecting older adults.

By choosing to take part, our patients are helping to shape future NHS care, while being supported every step of the way by our dedicated clinical and research teams.

Thank you to everyone involved - especially our patients - for making such a meaningful difference, both locally and nationally.

Deputy Medical Director champions women in surgery on the national stage

Professor Felicity Meyer, Deputy Medical Director at QEH and Consultant Vascular Surgeon, is featured in Insight: Portraits of Women in Surgery - a major new exhibition at Royal College of Surgeons.

Opening at the Hunterian Museum this February, the exhibition highlights women surgeons working across the UK and explores both progress and persistent inequality within the profession.

Despite women making up more than half of UK doctors, only 17% of consultant surgeons are women. This exhibition gives voice to those challenging that imbalance.
