🚦Road Safety Week: Protecting Our Staff and Community

Road Safety Week is observed from Monday 17 November to Sunday 23 November and is a perfect opportunity to remind everyone on the following:

🔟 Speed Limits: Keep to the 10-mph maximum on all site roads – patient and staff safety depends on it.
🚸 Pedestrian Crossings: Come to a complete stop at zebra crossings and remain vigilant for pedestrians.
🅿️ Parking: Blue badge bays are reserved for patients and visitors only. Staff should use designated areas marked in white.

Working together, we keep The QEH safe for everyone.

👏 Massive congratulations to Geminick Siriban, Charge Nurse on Peddars Way ‘End of Life’ Unit for winning our monthly Outstanding Contribution Award for Living Our Values. 🏆

Gem’s nomination came from a relative of a patient he was caring for and reads: “Gem was the nurse in charge of Peddars Way on the day that my Nan was moved to end of life care. Despite having a bad experience on a busy ward with there being no side cubicles Gem came to complete the checklist in a timely manner and ensured all documents were up to date. Gem was kind, caring, compassionate and took the time to explain everything. The level of care that Nan received whilst on Peddars Way was on another level.

“Nothing was too much, and Gem ensured to keep up with regular pain management and mouth care to ease comfort. When the time came that Nan passed away, it was peaceful, dignified and Gem ensured that all of Nan's wishes (which were important to her) were upheld.

“It felt that Gem was grieving alongside us, and you can see that he was made for his job role.”

Well done Gem on this amazing nomination and thank you for everything you do for our patients, their families and our staff. Keep up the great work.

Congratulations to this week’s Team of the Week - The Homecare Pharmacy Team

Their nomination reads: “The Homecare Pharmacy Team are fantastic and are a credit to the QEH team. When dealing with various queries and questions for patients and consultants multiple times a day; The Homecare Pharmacy Team always respond quickly and help answer the query. On the occasion where issues arise, they are quick to help and will go above and beyond to get these issues resolved, including walking around the other departments in order to get things sorted as quickly as possible. They are both extremely approachable, friendly and kind and never make you feel like you are nuisance when asking about various queries.

“There have been some tough times in Pharmacy recently with the lack of chemotherapy pharmacists, but The Homecare Pharmacy Team have been a credit to themselves in how they have dealt with these difficult situations and have always responded to patients and staff with empathy and efficiency, despite being under great strain.

“It is reassuring to know there are staff in the trust like The Homecare Pharmacy Team who work hard and put not only staff, but also their colleagues first, and try to do the best they can for every situation. They deserve credit for their attitudes, work ethic and kindness.”

🦠 We have cases of norovirus (vomiting and diarrhoea bug) circulating within our hospital.

🦠 If you've been in contact with anyone with Norovirus please do not visit our hospital. If you have had symptoms of Norovirus, please wait at least 48 hours after your symptoms have passed before you visit our wards, to prevent the spread of the virus.

🦠 Norovirus is one of the most common stomach bugs in the UK, causing diarrhoea and vomiting. It's also known as the 'winter vomiting bug' because of its prevalence in winter, but it can be caught at any time of the year.
