We were asked to help the KCC Climbing Club to purchase equipment for use on the school's climbing wall, and on trips to Dartmoor and commercial climbing walls. We approached our favourite councillors, Julian Brazil (Devon CC), Denise O'Callaghan and Susan Jackson (SHDC), and thanks to their generous support, we were able to buy everything they needed. Here's the equipment being unpacked, and in use on a recent trip to Dartmoor. Many thanks once again to our lovely councillors!

Many thanks to our lovely supporters at the Norman Family Trust

19/09/2024

This is one of the best weeks ever for SHAW! The Norman Family Trust have just granted us some funding. I'm having a lovely time arranging activities for kids aged 7-18. Photos will be appearing throughout the winter and spring. We're so grateful to the organisations who support us regularly - I hope they realise what a difference they make.

More good news! SHAW has received a generous grant from the Gibbons Family Trust. This will be used for family forest days at Forest & Beach. Thanks again to the Gibbons Family Trust for their continuing generous support.

Thanks to the Co-op, we were able to send some KCC pupils to Outside Devon to do pottery. No photos, for safeguarding reasons, but they had a great time, and we'll aim to repeat as soon as we get a bit more funding. Many thanks to Dan, the store manager at the Salcombe Co-op, for sorting this.

They've done it again! Cllrs Brazil, O'Callaghan and Jackson have generously donated funding for a composting toilet for the forest school at KCC. Not our most glamorous project! - but it will mean that kids don't have to trek back to the school when they need the loo, and the forest school can be used out of school hours by children of all ages. The plan is to install it during the summer holidays.

Thanks again to Councillors Brazil, O'Callaghan and Jackson for funding the beginners' skate coaching at Kingsbridge SkatePark. Their donation also funded safety equipment for the children to use during their lessons. I can't post any photos because I don't have permission from parents, but there has been some fabulous feedback on the SkatePark page!

Things go a bit quiet for us in the cold weather. However, we've been happy to fund some indoor climbing sessions for these KCC students. We thank the Gibbons Family Trust for their generous support.

Many thanks to Pete and Andrea for this, the final family session of 2023. It looks as if everybody enjoyed themselves, but the weather was distinctly nippy, so we'll re-start in 2024. Thanks to the recent grant from the Co-op Community Fund, we can get a few more people out in the woods exploring, doing archery, making weird stuff and eating campfire food.

Many, many thanks to everybody who supported SHAW for the Co-op Community Fund. I went to Salcombe today to meet Dan, the manager of the Co-op there, and Kimberley, and we had this photo taken. As you can see, SHAW was awarded £1275.63. We will spend that on some more family days at Forest & Beach, plus workshops at Outside Devon.

We'd like to share these photos of children and parents enjoying a recent family day at Forest and Beach. There was archery, there was fire-making, there was knitting with twigs (??), home made vegetable soup, and lots of forest fun. We have run several of these days over the late summer/early autumn, thanks to funding gratefully received from Active Devon.
