Meet the Team – Jess, Manager of Glendale Lodge
Jess is our Manager here at Glendale Lodge, but in many ways this role feels like things coming full circle. Glendale was Jess’s very first job straight out of school, and more than 15 years later she has come back to lead the home that has always been such a big part of her story.
Care and Glendale life run deep in Jess’s family. Her mum, Jackie, has been with us for nearly 30 years, so Glendale has never just been a workplace – it has always been something much closer to home.
Jess first joined us as a carer, working weekends while studying at university to become a Registered Nurse. From the very beginning she showed that determination to work hard, keep learning and always push herself further. After qualifying, she spread her wings and gained experience away from Glendale, working with the District Nursing team and later as part of the Community Prescribing team. She even went back to university again, because Jess has always been someone who wants to grow, develop and better herself. Although, truth be told, we thought she was pretty wonderful anyway.
As life has gone on, Jess has become many things all at once – a nurse, a leader, a busy mum to scarlet and several step-daughters, and someone who somehow seems able to manage a whirlwind of chaos with the tiniest wiggle of her nose. She brings that same calm capability into her work too. Jess has a very reassuring presence, the kind that helps people feel settled, supported and safe. She is hands-on, approachable and never afraid to muck in, which means she leads with both strength and heart.
Taking on the role of Manager at Glendale Lodge is no small thing. There is a huge responsibility in carrying forward Carole’s legacy, and that comes with real weight. But Jess has stepped into this new chapter with courage, commitment and a clear love for the home and the people in it. She understands Glendale, she understands the residents, and she understands the importance of preserving what makes this place special while also helping it move forward.
In less than a year back with us, Jess has already done so well. She has introduced shift leads to help support the running of the home and to make sure both residents and staff continue to get the time, attention and leadership they need. She trusts her team, shares responsibility well and welcomes being hands-on, which says a lot about the kind of manager she is. Strong leadership is not about doing everything yourself – it is about building people up around you – and Jess has really embraced that.
One of the loveliest things about Jess returning is that so many of your loved ones already know her. She is a familiar face to many, and that sense of continuity means a lot. There is comfort in seeing someone come back, not just with qualifications and experience, but with genuine affection for the home and the people in it.
Outside of work, Jess has plenty to keep her busy too. She has an upcoming wedding that we are all very excited about, and yes, there has been plenty of buzz about the cake. She loves a song, a dance, and is slowly learning to embrace a little downtime when she can – something we all know she deserves.
Jess has come such a long way, and we are incredibly proud of everything she has achieved. From her first days here as a young carer, to coming back as the Manager of Glendale Lodge, her journey is one of hard work, loyalty, growth and heart.
We are so glad she came back to us.

Meet the Team – Cavin 💜 Activities Coordinator

Cavin is a mix of puppy energy, cabaret and pure enthusiasm.
His favourite colour is purple and, if Cavin had his way, there would probably be a little bit of it everywhere. 💜
He works incredibly hard organising and running activities for our residents, bringing music, laughter and plenty of personality to the day. Cavin is passionate about what he does and always puts his heart into helping residents join in, have fun and feel heard.
Now… we must talk about dogs.
Cavin loves every dog that has ever existed. Truly. Every. Single. One. Especially his own beloved Rocket Bear. If you bring a dog to visit Glendale, please be prepared for Cavin to appear almost instantly with the excitement level of a Labrador who’s just heard the treat jar open.
Cavin has dipped in and out of Glendale over the last 30 years, but when he returned it felt like he never left.
With the energy of a Labrador and the voice of a megaphone, Cavin fills the room the moment he arrives — and his excitement is completely contagious.
He also spends time one-to-one with residents, helping them share their thoughts, ideas and requests. Many of the emails families receive in the form of newsletters Cavin sends out and he puts alot of thought into them.
A big personality, a big heart, and a very much appreciated member of the Glendale team.

Today we say goodbye but also thank you to someone who has given over 30 years of her life, heart and dedication to Glendale Lodge.
Carole hasn’t just worked here. She has lived and breathed this place. For many of us, it’s hard to imagine Glendale Lodge without her.
As manager, Carole led this home with quiet strength, compassion and determination. But over the years she has also done almost every job there is to do. She has cleaned, cooked, worked nights, supported staff and cared for residents, always leading by example. Nothing was ever beneath her because she understood that every role mattered when it came to caring for people.
Glendale Lodge has always been about family, and Carole truly embodied that. Decades ago she used to bring her own children to work, and many of us remember them growing up alongside the home. Life and work blended together in the most genuine way.
And it wasn’t just Carole. Over the years, many mothers, daughters and sons have worked here together, and sometimes when childcare couldn’t be found, children came along too, growing up around the home just as Carole’s own boys did. That’s the kind of place Glendale Lodge has always been, somewhere that understood real life and supported the people who worked here.
This home has held some very personal moments for Carole too. Her own mum and dad became residents here, cared for in the place she helped build. Even her former boss from when she lived another life as a nanny in sunnier climes, later came to live here. That says so much about the trust people placed in her and in this home.
Over the years, Glendale Lodge has seen different owners, several extensions to the building, and countless changes in regulations and legislation. The world of care has changed so much. But through every change, Carole remained the constant. She didn’t just follow change. She embraced learning, adapted, and always made sure the home stayed strong, compassionate and forward thinking.
So many staff have stayed here for decades, which says everything about the environment Carole created. We’ve seen families working side by side, staff whose own parents later became residents, and generations of families trusting this home with the people they love most.
And Glendale Lodge has always had its own little characters too, including the much loved cats Topsy, Putsa and Henry, who were just another part of the warmth that made this place feel like home, carole knew the importance of that homely feeling.
Carole’s influence doesn’t just live in the past. It continues into the future of Glendale Lodge.
Our new manager, Jess, is a perfect example of that. Jess grew up connected to this home as the daughter of one of our long standing staff members. She later left to complete her nursing degree, and when she qualified she kept her ties, because her very first job was here at Glendale Lodge.
Over the years Jess has learned so much here, supported and guided by Carole along the way. And today, as she steps into the role of manager, it feels like a natural continuation of everything Carole has built.
It shows something very special about this place. People don’t just work here. They grow here, learn here, and return to lead the next chapter.
When you stand at Glendale Lodge and look out across the fields and the windmills, it feels symbolic. The windmill stands strong, steady and enduring against whatever weather comes its way.
In many ways, that is exactly what Carole has been for this home. A steady presence, a guiding force, and the strength behind so much of what Glendale Lodge has become today.
Carole, the kindness, dedication and leadership you have shown over the past three decades have left a mark that will never disappear. Glendale Lodge is what it is today because of you.
You have given so much of yourself to this place and to the people in it, and for that we are all incredibly grateful.
You will be deeply missed, but the legacy you leave behind will continue in every act of care that happens here.
Thank you, Carole, for everything.
And we wish you a retirement filled with the same love, warmth and happiness that you have given to so many others.
