Hullopecia

Hullopecia September 2021 is Alopecia Awareness Month. Alopecia UK are raising funds and awareness re the effects of hair loss (alopecia). Spread the word!

It can affect anyone and they can draw on support from Alopecia UK. As I live in Hull, Hullopecia seemed apt.

Last day of my Hullopecia walks and so it's the furthest yet: 6 miles to Humber Bridge. The weather didn't hold for one last day so waterproofs were needed. My old legs held up pretty well. My Samsung kept a record of my distances and times. It seems I take between 19 and 20 minutes to walk a mile.
Thanks to all who have followed me and those who went to my fundraising page at www.alopecia.org.uk and made a donation.

Penultimate walk. Done today instead of a couple of Sundays ago when I felt less than 100%. This is the Hull museums quarter/High Street. Often used now in films as a Victorian or WW2 era setting for London. From the stalls and barrels it looks to be in progress as backdrop for the second Enola Holmes (Sherlock's sister) feature.

Another walk, another hat! Here in front of the newest shopping centre in Hull, St Stephen's. It's my Rat Pack/Frank Sinatra look. The sun was out but the wind made it quite chilly.

Hull City Centre and the BBC building was my target today. It is in the square of flower beds and impressive fountains next to Queens Gardens. Autumn has arrived too. Rain showers earlier, breezy and around 16°.

Yes, I am outside Craven Park, home of Hull Kingston Rovers but the red sign behind me is too far away to read. (I didn't go nearer because my bus home was due). It was a walk of just about 5 miles, my longest yet this month. About the same as my last walk to the Humber Bridge will be on Wednesday.

Another hat (this one bought in San Francisco) and a walk into town to the indoor market. Very busy on Saturday lunchtime. Also one of Hull's many interesting corners viewed from the square in front of the Minster.

Today's walk of just over 3 miles was to the northern part of Hull - Orchard Park. Up thriving Newland Avenue, past the University and through N Hull Estate. On the way I picked up this large specimen of conker. Hull Fair soon when conkers fall in the Avenues.

Boyes's, but this time my alopecia awareness walk took me to the city's eastern branch in Holderness Rd. In my green Hawaiian shirt today and the sun came out eventually. I had a wander round Boyes's and, as usual, found useful kitchen stuff I didn't know I needed!

Yes! I made it to Preston Road. A little late (very late night. Went to Preston North End last night. They won 4 - 1 [👍] but M62 closed on way back so approaching 0100 arrival in Hull). Found another breakfast place to fully recommend- Wilmington Cafe. It's near the bridge over the River Hull of same name, the old station waiting room. All clean and freshly cooked home made food. Freedom Centre itself has cafe with similar attributes but not the same historical significance.

Well, today I made it to Branny Cennah (if you talk 'ull), North Point or Bransholme Centre (if you don't). 4 miles or 1hr 20mins. Again via the old railway line, across the Wilmington Bridge and past some densely berried bushes. And sunshine once more. If nothing else, by the end of this month my bald pate should be brown as a berry!

. I made my walk to Sutton village today. (It's really in Hull but retains the name and atmosphere of a separate place altogether). Went via the old Hull to Hornsea railway track, part of which is the eastern end of the Trans Pennine Trail. I recommend from past experience a sunny morning bike ride this way through Holderness to Hornsea for a fish and chip lunch by the sea.

Hullopecia walked to Hessle Road this morning. Boyes's store an unchanged cornucopia of household items. Delicious coffee on corner of the Boulevard at Zigzag.

Walked to Cottingham market this morning. (3 or 3.5 miles depending on which app you follow. 7,000 steps anyway). However I forgot to take a photo to post on Hullopecia! This morning's rain had passed and it was another hot, t shirt only, walk. My health app tells me I've walked 27 miles since 1st September. Average of 3 a day. Maybe by the 30th I'll top 100?

Sunday and my walk for Alopecia Awareness Month brings me to the Deep. The shark statue set me thinking; 300 million years unchanged and not a hair or eyelash in sight. Baldness is strength!

Hey, I made it to Hull Guildhall today. It's covered in scaffolding! So just to prove I'm there I took a photo with the City Hotel behind me. Refreshments at an old favourite (McCoys on Prince's Dock St). For the first time I used my phone and QR code on the table to order. Just call me tecky literate!
