Breastfeeding at last! “Baby Y did not latch on and feed from the breast until he was four months old. I so desperately wanted to breastfeed – but it seemed less and less likely as time passed. I would never have believed such a late start to breastfeeding was possible. But I successfully breastfed him until he was nearly three years old. The beautiful memories of breastfeeding Y will stay with me as some of the most precious of my life”. (A, East London)

It's Disability Pride Month - thank you to Jo for sharing her experiences with us.

"I’m Jo – mum to 6-year-old twins. I’m autistic with ADHD, and I live with chronic pain, hypermobility, a spinal injury, and an autoimmune condition.

Before my babies were born, I’d spent years learning how to support infant feeding, and I always knew I wanted to breastfeed. But when my twins arrived prematurely, there was a lot of doubt from others about whether I could do it.

Thankfully, I had brilliant support around me – and we did it. I breastfed for over three years.

It wasn’t easy: there were cushions everywhere, lots of adapting, and moments where I had to distract myself from the intensity of it all. But my little ones had breast milk from the start, and I couldn’t have wished for more for them.

Breastfeeding was something I could do in a body that so often feels limited. I’m so proud of our journey and everything we achieved."

We love this photo! Thanks for sharing with us 🥰

"We had such a wonderful time at Cardiff Pride and were given these wearable balloon tentacles after the parade! And as we were both wearing them around the event, when the boys wanted some 'yonk' - we obviously had to capture the moment and what a fantastic memory to have!"

MP Jess Brown-Fuller has arranged a debate in the House of Commons *next Tuesday July 1st* on Infant Feeding. This is a great moment to tell your MP how important breastfeeding support and .wbtiuk's recent report recommendations are to you, and to ask them as your representative in Parliament to stay for the debate! Jess Brown-Fuller also chairs the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Infant Feeding & Inequalities and you can invite your MP to join that too.

If you need your MP's contact details check theyworkforyou.com and be sure to include your postal address in your email.

It's hot in some parts of the UK! 🌞 Even in very hot weather your exclusively breastfed baby doesn’t need additional water, but they will probably want to breastfeed more. It's good to offer.

Thank you to Aisha for sharing her story with us:

"I still can’t quite believe my wife and I have nourished and sustained both of our children with our bodies alone.

Our first, born in Dec 2020 and carried by my wife, had a tough start; hypoglycaemia, tongue tie, and the added pressure of the pandemic made breastfeeding a real physical, mental, and emotional challenge. But with expert support and a whole lot of determination, our brilliant 4.5yo is still breastfeeding today, and starting school in September!

Our second, born in Dec 2024 and carried by me, took to feeding well, but learning from my wife's experience, I wanted to be prepared. I joined the LLL Beginning Breastfeeding course during pregnancy, attended local groups postnatally, and worked with an IBCLC early on to iron out any issues. Our now 5mo is thriving and gearing up to start solids soon.

We’re not just proud to be exclusively breastfeeding, we’re proud to be a two-mum family raising young children.

Neither of us imagined we’d become so passionate about lactation or committed to natural-term breastfeeding, but here we are, and we wouldn’t have it any other way."
