Hello everyone, this is Stuart's daughter, Rachel. This is a quick post to inform you all that on Sunday 14th September 2025, my dad passed away.
He passed away peacefully surrounded by me, my mum and my brother.
I will be making another post when a funeral date has been decided and all the preparations have been made.

After I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August 2023, we had to close Buckingham Opticians completely. After over 11 hours in surgery and a further 6 months of chemotherapy, I was decared cancer-free in April 2024, and started doi g locum work in September.
Now I am locumming regularly for Eyesite Opticians in Cottingham, Hessle and Hedon, with occasional days in Barton. I also locum at Edwards Opticians in Elloughton and Market Weighton.

UPDATE
Stuart is recovering well at home, and is adapting to life as a Type 3c diabetic, with the insulin dosages, carb counting and Creon capsules. He has started on the chemotherapy, which is having some side-effects, especially fatigue. However, he recently saw the oncology specialist who said that the last CT scan showed that Stuart is cancer-free, so the chemo is more precautionary to mop up any cancer cells which may still be floating about. At last, some good news!

CLOSURE OF BUCKINGHAM OPTICIANS
It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce the permanent closure of Buckingham Opticians on 21st August. Stuart has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which fortunately is operable but involves major surgery with a minimum of a six-month lay-off from work. The business simply cannot continue.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our wonderful patients, many of whom have become friends more than customers, and wish you all the best for the future.
