There’s a quiet kind of exhaustion that shows up around weekends like this.
Not because anything is “wrong”…
but because your nervous system is holding more than you realise.
Family dynamics.
Old roles.
Unspoken expectations.
The pressure to be “on” when your body actually craves the quiet corner on the sofa and to be left alone with the whole easter egg.
And what most people don’t realise is..
this isn’t just emotional.
It’s physiological.
When your system feels unsafe, overwhelmed, or overstimulated, your body shifts into a stress response.
Cortisol rises.
Your breath shortens.
Muscle tone changes.
And your lymphatic system - which helps clear excess hormones, inflammation, and stress byproducts - can start to slow down.
So you don’t just feel it…
you carry it.
That heavy, wired, slightly irritable feeling?
That’s not you being “too much.”
That’s your body asking for support.
And support doesn’t have to be big or perfect.
It can look like:
– stepping outside for 2 minutes of air
– gently massaging your collarbones to help your lymph flow
– taking one slower breath before you respond
– rebounding/shaking out tension instead of holding it in (pick a song that helps you cut loose)
– giving yourself permission to not be who you used to be in certain spaces.
Small moments like this help your system discharge stress,
regulate your nervous system,
and quite literally process what your body is holding.
This is the work.
Not forcing yourself to push through.
Not overriding how you feel.
Not ignoring your gut.
But learning how to listen…
and respond differently.
If this weekend feels a little full for you - come back to your body.
It knows what it needs.
If you try any of these, or have a favourite song, I’d love to hear it.
