I came home yesterday to this lovely gesture. It made me feel seen and acknowledged the hard work I’ve been putting in to get to where I am today. I have a job that I love and feel as though I’m making a difference. The hard work is absolutely worth it 💕

Yesterday, I achieved my next professional milestone. As well as being a qualified Integrative TA Psychotherapist, I am now officially a level 6 ACCREDITED Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. That might not mean much to non therapist folk out there, but I am absolutely over the moon! Roll on July so I can collect my certificate 🥳

What recent win would you like to shout about? I’d love to hear in the comments 👇

I’m hunkered down in here for the day…

I love it because of the homely feel, natural lighting and multiple options of seating arrangement for my clients to feel comfortable.

What would be important in a therapy space for you?

Winnie the Pooh!

I went out for a Christmas shopping day with my mum & grandma last week and stumbled upon these for the grand old price of £3.50- bargain!

I’m not one for slowing down generally, but with Christmas upon us I thought it would be the perfect opportunity. Let’s hope there are no jigsaw pieces missing! 😄

Who doesn’t love Winnie the Pooh!? Eeyore is my personal favourite- who’s yours?

It’s been a while! 10 weeks and 2 days to be precise.

I initially had a break from social media because the world was a scary place to be, and doom scrolling was not helping- so I practiced what I preach and took a step back. It’s amazing what a difference it made- I would highly recommend a social media break to anyone struggling with world events.

Then I found myself navigating grief. I realised I couldn’t come on here authentically, and I didn’t want to put my feelings in a box for the sake of a few views. So instead, I allowed myself to feel them and work through them without the pressure to put on a smile for the camera. Grief is so complex that I can’t say I’ll ever be ’over it’, but without going into too much detail I am managing much better.

And as a result, my immune system has completely gone offline too- sickness bugs, colds, migraines, aches and pains EVERYWHERE. As I type, I’m sat with a warming hot chocolate and a handy box of tissues- hence not making a video… no one needs to see this 😂 Once this cold has cleared, I’ll be back to creating content that will hopefully reach a few people and spark some curiosity around mental health and wellbeing.

It’s good to be back!

Much love, Vicky x

To summarise,

• I wouldn’t work with someone where there was a conflict of interest or dual relationship. Being able to share relevant information with your therapist at your own pace is important!

• I wouldn’t take on a new client who specifically wanted to work within a modality of therapy I’m not thoroughly trained in (EMDR for example)… but I might be able to offer a referral to someone better suited

• I might not work with someone if there were particularly strong beliefs that weren’t open for exploration. I have no problem with differing opinions, but curiosity plays a big part in how I work

• I wouldn’t work with someone if I was unable to show up authentically or felt unsafe (psychologically as well as physically) for any reason. Again, I may be able to offer referrals depending on circumstances

Of course, this works both ways! Clients will have their own non-negotiables when it comes to finding a therapist too ☺️

Happy weekend! Make it count 🫶🏻

My reasons for social media as a therapist:

1) Challenging my own processes- practicing what I preach

2) Putting more of myself out there for potential clients to get a feel for who I am

3) Evoking some curiosity for anyone not yet looking to engage in therapy

These are simply my thoughts around social media- I’d love to hear yours ☺️

Not every therapist is suited to every client, and that’s okay!

If we think about it in terms of transference, it makes complete sense.

As much as I strive to provide a safe space in terms of confidentiality and being open to receive whatever you might bring without judgement, I also have to show up as authentically as possible. If I tried to change parts of myself to please others on a 1-2-1 basis, clients would see straight through it, compromising the therapeutic relationship being built.

There are many ways to choose a therapist, but if you instinctively feel at ease with someone that’s a great place to start ☺️

Transference- Part 1

Have you ever noticed how quickly we can make a judgement of someone new? Here’s how transference works…

A good question to ask yourself is ‘Who does this person remind me of’. It can be very telling!

Always been a people pleaser?

Got to a point in your life where you’ve had enough of worrying what other people think?

Not really sure who you are or what fulfils you without the approval of others?

You’re in the right place!

Exploring processes and dynamics, both with others and internally can be a really powerful place to start. Having that awareness can give you the potential to challenge what you’ve always thought to be true. Psychotherapy could provide you with the tools to do exactly that!

Stay curious, and follow me ❤️

Boundaries!

How the heck does anyone hold a boundary within an automated process? Answers on a postcard please! I’d love to know 😅

This is not how I planned to spend my Friday evening
