Today is Social Prescribing Day!

Did you know Marmot PCN have Social Prescribers?

Our Social Prescribers can support you with anything that is not clinical, such as support with your finances, putting referrals in place to give you guidance on benefits, housing, and debts. Or if you are a carer and unsure of what support is available to you and the person you are caring for, there are some great services in the area that can help!

If you are feeling isolated or lonely, they can signpost you to various local services and social groups in your local area to help you connect with your local community. If you need support with accessing your local gym and / or exercise classes, to help you get active, they can advise on this.

They can also support you with your mental wellbeing by putting you in touch with one of our local services. If you are feeling low in mood, struggling with anxiety, or experiencing grief or bereavement, they can help.

If you need help with stopping or reducing smoking, alcohol intake or substance misuse, there are various services in the area that can provide support with this, and they can help you make the referrals to them.

Our Social Prescribers are here to listen to you and make sure you get the best support put in place. You don't need to speak to a doctor to be referred, you can contact the practice directly who will book you an appointment either as a telephone appointment or face to face.

If you are a patient of Dr Hendow, James Alexander Family Practice Bransholme or James Alexander Family Practice Princes Avenue you are eligible for this service.

Nutrition and Hydration Week 16th – 22nd March

Fruit and vegetables are usually low in fat and calories when you do not fry or roast them. Eating them can help you maintain a healthy weight and keep your heart healthy.

To get the most out of your 5 a day, your 5 portions should include a variety of fruit and vegetables. This is because different fruits and vegetables contain different combinations of fibre, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.

Almost all fruit and vegetables count towards your 5 a day. They can be fresh, frozen, canned, dried or juiced. Potatoes, yams and cassava do not count because they mainly contribute starch to the diet.

The link below gives advice on what counts towards your 5 a day -

Today marks the beginning of Endometriosis Action Month. This year, our theme is ‘Endometriosis Doesn’t Wait’. Endometriosis doesn’t wait whilst you’re trying to get a diagnosis or access care. It doesn’t wait for your career. Your education. Your social life or your relationships.

We’ll be sharing more throughout the month, including how you can join us in taking action this March.
