I completed my qualification at the London School of Sports Massage where I gained a BTEC level 5 in sports and remedial massage therapy, the highest available in the UK. The benefits to receiving massage therapy is something I’m extremely passionate about sharing. It can produce some outstanding results than can impact ones sporting performance or quality of life tremendously. The skills I have acquired allow me to detect areas of soft tissue dysfunction and use the right techniques to effectively target those areas and help improve imbalances.

Have you ever been told to ‘feel the stretch’ or ‘work on feel’ when it comes to your own stretch routine?

Put simply, this means focusing your mind on the muscle you are stretching.

Understanding anatomy is without doubt an advantage when it comes to stretching safely. However, you don’t need to be an expert in the field to benefit from some effective elongation of the soft tissues.

👉🏻 Keep it slow

👉🏻 Focus on breathing. Remember to exhale as you deepen the stretch

👉🏻 Think about the type of pain you are experiencing. Aim for mild discomfort - easing gradually, as opposed to a lasting intense pain.

👉🏻 Think about reducing stress on the rest of your body to allow for greater relaxation. Are you bracing your core? Maybe take the stretch to the floor to further relax your posture.

👉🏻 Think about time. How long are you stretching? For maintenance stretches aim for 10-15 seconds. For developmental stretches aim for 60-90 seconds, increasing the stretch every 15 seconds.

Stretching is the essential component to keeping your body in balance. Yes it can be boring but you will thank yourself for the consistency in later years ✌🏻
