Supporting you in your journey to achieving your goals and regaining your independence. I'm Vicki, an Occupational Therapist with 16 years of experience working across both acute hospitals and community rehabilitation. I provide specialist occupational therapy assessment and intervention to enable individuals to participate in their meaningful activities of daily living. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting adults with a wide range of physical health needs, with particular focus on neurorehabilitation, trauma orthopaedics, and postural management. I have recently successfully completed my Masters of Science in Advanced Practice including developing skills in Health Coaching, Change Management, Research Skills and Advanced Assessment and Outcome Measures. What drives me most is helping people regain independence and improve their quality of life — seeing someone achieve goals that matter to them, no matter how big or small, is the best part of my job. If you would like to explore how I may be able to support you in achieving your goals, please email me and I will send you my referral form.

A great report from the MS Society about people’s right to neuro-rehabilitation, and how statutory services need improving to allow everyone with a progressive neurological condition the right to timely, patient-centred neuro-rehabilitation - regardless of their postcode or ability to pay.

Access to the neurorehabilitation people with MS need is a postcode lottery. Together with other charities and workforce organisations we're demanding change.

A major step forward in calling for better access to living aids and equipment. 🙌

MPs have taken the concerns of occupational therapists straight to the UK Parliament, recognising ongoing challenges such as delays in community equipment, inconsistent provision and the impact on safe hospital discharge.

They echoed what many in our profession have raised for years, that people are waiting too long for essential equipment, and that a national strategy is urgently needed to ensure fairness and timely access.

This is a significant moment for OTs and the people we support.

I recently did some research on kitchen aids and gadgets to support a client with a brachial plexus injury, which affects the function of their upper limb. Gadgets like these can help increase independence and make cooking easier!

Fatigue and poor sleep is something I support people with regularly in my role as an OT. On World Sleep Day, if you or someone you know is struggling with poor sleep for a variety of reasons and it is impacting on daily life, and you/they need advice and support in managing this, please get in touch 💚

😴🌙 World Sleep Day 🌙😴

Today is a reminder of just how important sleep is for our overall health and wellbeing. Good quality sleep helps to improve concentration, mood, immune function and energy levels.

Getting enough rest isn’t a luxury it’s essential.

Here are a few simple tips for better sleep:
🛏️ Keep a consistent bedtime routine
📵 Avoid screens before bed
☕ Reduce caffeine later in the day
🌿 Create a calm, comfortable sleep environment

Taking care of your sleep is taking care of your health.

If you’re struggling with sleep and would like advice or support, please feel free to get in touch.

I couldn’t be without my long handled shoe horn… such a helpful, inexpensive piece of equipment that just makes things that bit easier if you find bending difficult, or if it hurts your hands to pull your shoes on at the back!

Signed! ✅ Loss of vision can be devastating, and more support is needed to help people regain their independence and quality of life that may be impacted by vision loss.

You’ve probably heard a lot about our Out of Sight campaign and petition on vision rehabilitation.

Here’s some more detail on what we’re asking for from Wes Streeting, to make sure that blind and partially sighted people get the support they need, when they need it:

- We want to see a national standard for what good vision rehabilitation looks like so local authorities know what service to provide.
- Vision rehabilitation services need the same regulation and monitoring as other adult social care services.
- Vision Rehabilitation Specialists should be recognised for their skills and expertise.
- Services need to join up better so there's a clearer route into vision rehabilitation for everyone who needs it.

Find out more and please sign our petition if you haven’t already: https://rnib.in/OutOfSightReport

An interesting, 5-minute read from the Royal College of Occupational Therapists about how occupational therapy can help tackle the rising issue of youth unemployment.

'Occupational therapists can enable young people to participate, stay connected and move confidently towards work. We work across physical, sensory, cognitive, emotional and social factors to help young people build routines, confidence, motivation and a sense of purpose. We also bring specialist skills in vocational rehabilitation, including functional assessments, condition management and workplace adjustments.'

💚

Youth unemployment is not just an economic issue, it’s a health and participation issue.

We’ve submitted evidence to the Alan Milburn Review explaining why occupational therapists must be part of the solution.

Early, joined-up support helps young people stay connected to education and move confidently towards work.
