Seen a really interesting post by David Loos on terpenes and how they actually work 👀💨
Thought I’d break it down into simple terms for anyone trying to understand what it means as a patient…
👉 Terpenes are what give your medication its smell, taste, and a big part of how it feels.
👉 There are two main types:
• Monoterpenes – lighter, more “fresh” smells (citrus, pine). These hit quicker but fade quicker.
• Sesquiterpenes – heavier, deeper smells (earthy, spicy). These come through slower but last longer.
👉 What this means when you medicate:
• Lower temps = more flavour + quicker onset
• Higher temps = deeper effects + longer lasting
👉 Storage is key:
Those lighter terpenes disappear fast if your meds aren’t stored properly. Heat, air, and poor packaging = less flavour and reduced overall effect.
👉 Simple takeaway:
It’s not just what you’ve got… it’s how you store it and how you use it that shapes your experience.
