Yesterday we were exploring the grief of my client and the reasons why she can't move forward....
Grief is not only about who we lose,
but also about who we were in that relationship. When a loved one passes, we don’t just mourn their absence—we feel so lost because we mourn the identity we held through that connection:
The mother, the son, the daughter, the partner, the protector, the one who was needed.
And when those roles disappear,
we feel unanchored… uncertain… changed.
Many people feel stuck in grief because they unconsciously resist stepping into their new reality.
New responsibilities arise. A different role is waiting to be embodied.
But part of us still longs for who we once were, and what we once had.
A deep spiritual healing begins when we bring loving awareness to both:
The sorrow of what’s been lost, and the sacred opportunity of connecting with the depth of our soul.
We are not just the roles we play.
These identities are meaningful, yes—but they are not the whole of who we are.
When we cling to these roles too tightly, we forget the greater Self that lives within us—
The cosmic, divine, unchanging Self.
The one that remains even as life reshapes itself around us.
If you’re feeling lost in grief or identity after loss, therapy can be a path back to your Self.
Message me to explore how we can walk this path together.
