Important info for parents: is easier to spot in the summer months.

Here's how to spot the visual signs 👇

Spotting scoliosis in the summer ⛱️☀️

Summer holidays mean more time by the pool, on holiday and at the beach. Scoliosis is easier to spot in the summer months, as kids spend more time in swimsuits or lighter outfits.

And that’s often when parents first notice the visual signs of scoliosis.

Knowing what to look for can help you spot scoliosis earlier, leading to better outcomes and potentially avoiding surgery later on. Here's what to keep an eye out for 👇

👉 a visibly curved spine
👉 one shoulder higher than the other
👉 one hip appearing more prominent
👉 rib cage sticking out on one side (especially noticeable from the back)
👉 head not centred over the body
👉 difficulty standing up straight
👉 back pain
👉 a difference in leg length
👉 pain in the legs or pins and needles

If you think your child may have scoliosis, we offer free video assessments for scoliosis, with one of our specialist scoliosis clinician.

When Lexie’s parents noticed a sudden flat spot on her head at just 3 weeks old, they were told to “wait and see.” But by 7 months, with little improvement and growing concern, they took matters into their own hands.

After NHS options were exhausted, they turned to LOC and our LOCband Lite helmet therapy, a non-invasive solution for plagiocephaly. With consistent wear and ongoing support, Lexie’s cranial asymmetry reduced from 24mm to just 8mm 🙌

If you’re concerned about your baby’s head shape, don’t wait. Book a free consultation or complete our free diagnosis form. We're here to help.

We’re excited to announce the launch of the Agilik smart orthosis, the world’s first powered orthotic knee joint, in collaboration with partners Bionic Power Inc. and Thuasne.

As the exclusive paediatric specialist centre in the UK, we're proud that The London Orthotic Consultancy can bring this groundbreaking innovation to our patients, transforming mobility and rehabilitation outcomes.

A lightweight, powered device that provides dynamic knee assistance, the Agilik smart orthosis helps patients walk more easily, efficiently, and confidently. We're looking forward to offering this pioneering technology to children and adult patients with lower limb weakness.

A smarter alternative to traditional KAFOs and heavy exoskeletons, the Agilik offers real-time support when needed, reducing fatigue, improving posture and improving gait patterns.

LOC Director and Lead Clinician, Sam Walmsley, explains:
"We’re already trialling Agilik with patients, and the results have been remarkable. One child who's always walked with a severe crouch gait is now able to walk upright for the first time."

And because we’re manufacturing Agilik in-house at our Kingston clinic, this gives patients direct access to adjustments and repairs, ensuring optimal results and long-term outcomes.

Next week, we’ll be showcasing this incredible technology live at Neuro Convention 2025 at Birmingham’s NEC, where Sam will be part of a keynote presentation alongside a live patient demonstration.

If you’re attending, make sure you see the technology in action for yourself.

Hard work pays off 🏆

Great chest bracing results from one of our pectus excavatum patients!

At 13, Alex noticed his chest appeared sunken, and his ribs stuck out —a condition he later learned was and .

After learning that surgical options were the norm, Alex’s family explored an alternative route with The London Orthotic Consultancy. Over two years, Alex followed a tailored non-surgical treatment plan using a vacuum bell, a rib brace, and exercises. His dedication paid off, resulting in a fully corrected chest and a renewed sense of confidence.
