Calling our patients!

We're running a competition to show that wearing a brace doesn't stop you from doing the things you love.

We're inviting our LOC Scoliosis Brace-wearing patients to send in short video clips of themselves in their everyday lives, doing hobbies, sports, dance, or anything else they enjoy while wearing their brace.

Our hope is that these videos can help other young people feel more confident about wearing their brace.

What can you do in your LOC brace?

We're running a competition to show that wearing a brace doesn't stop you doing the things you love, and we'd love you to get involved!

Every video you send is a separate entry into a prize draw to win a £50 Space NK voucher, and you can send as many clips as you like. The best videos will be used in a video we share across our channels.

All you have to do is send us a short video of you wearing your brace, doing something you enjoy, which could be sport, dance, hobbies, or anything you wouldn't expect to be able to do in a scoliosis brace!

When our orthotists receive a message like this, it makes our day 🧗

Chris, a patient from our Manchester clinic, was recently able to get back into indoor mountain climbing, thanks to his new AFOs from orthotist Saeed Forghany.

"Chris had the most amazing first climb and said what a difference his new splints make. Thank you for being so patient and for not giving up.

Sheer grit and determination on both parts, knowing the incredible difference, the right equipment makes and frustration that comes without or the wrong equipment. Chris can get back to doing what he loves and feeling able. Thank you."

Spotting scoliosis in the summer ⛱️☀️

Summer holidays mean more time by the pool, on holiday and at the beach. Scoliosis is easier to spot in the summer months, as kids spend more time in swimsuits or lighter outfits.

And that’s often when parents first notice the visual signs of scoliosis.

Knowing what to look for can help you spot scoliosis earlier, leading to better outcomes and potentially avoiding surgery later on. Here's what to keep an eye out for 👇

👉 a visibly curved spine
👉 one shoulder higher than the other
👉 one hip appearing more prominent
👉 rib cage sticking out on one side (especially noticeable from the back)
👉 head not centred over the body
👉 difficulty standing up straight
👉 back pain
👉 a difference in leg length
👉 pain in the legs or pins and needles

Go Emma! 🙌

After years of debilitating Ehlers-Danlos symptoms and wheelchair reliance, 21-year-old Emma is learning to walk again thanks to bespoke carbon fibre AFOs from our Cambridge clinic.

When Lexie’s parents noticed a sudden flat spot on her head at just 3 weeks old, they were told to “wait and see.” But by 7 months, with little improvement and growing concern, they took matters into their own hands.
